Updating Non|step Thread last updated on 2005-10-02 11:20:50

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-02-07 11:16:57

I've been using the nonstep theme for litestep since ots was shiney and new, but the origonal creator (urula2k) seems to have dissapeared off the face of the planet. Does anyone know if he/she is going to update it for OTS2, or if anyone else is working on it?

If not, I'll do it, as well as add extra color themes. (llooking at the code, it seems that ursula2k origonally intended there to be a red theme, and included the code for it)

Posted by member 2112 on 2004-02-07 17:17:11 link

I thought someone has already done an update. Take a look through the Themes section. I'm probably wrong.

Posted by member 3116 on 2004-02-07 20:08:54 link

143lsstep did an ots2 release - it's available in the themes section

Posted by member 1340 on 2004-02-07 22:22:37 link

actually i updated it three times. get the latest release if possible. ;)

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-02-08 06:36:51 link

sweet, thanks!

edit: I've noticed a few problems, and i still want to add color themes, can i do that and email (or something) you the updated copy?

edit2: i've made more changes, and am making this a significant update.

Posted by member 1340 on 2004-02-08 18:42:04 link

No need to email me the copy of the theme. go ahead and upload the theme. would love to see more colors in the theme. make sure u include the proper credits to Ursula2k.

I'll code if you paint!

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-02-20 06:27:34 link

the beta version! with making fun of n00bs attached.

and brown is next. anyone else expericening a bug causing everything to get stuffed to one side when using top bar mode? and night mode sucks on top mode, I know, but its a nightmare to fix.

Posted by member 1340 on 2004-02-20 08:13:46 link

for the top mode problem. change the following in the script.rc file ::
*script exec !ifEq bar "top" !jDeskSetWorkArea 0,0,46,0

to
*script exec !ifEq bar "top" !jDeskSetWorkArea 0,46,0,0

cuz of jdesk versions.....

ah. your fault then? =P

Posted by member 125087 on 2004-02-21 18:01:08 link

Is there a way to change the font in the theme? It's quite un-readable for me.

Posted by member 1340 on 2004-02-21 23:15:25 link

mr_pollock:: copy the files present in the themes\misc folder to your windows\fonts directory. simple.

nooby:: yup that was my fault. but i gave teh solution in the comments section.... u didnt read... so ur fault... :)

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-02-22 13:23:14 link

YOU should have done a fourth update! =P

but enough of that. one last question about your brown theme. do you want it based around the regular pale themes, new dark one, or uberdark night theme?

anyone want a blue night theme?
feature requests?
anything?

Posted by member 125087 on 2004-02-22 19:10:37 link

Thanks guy. That helped a mucho buncho.

Posted by member 1340 on 2004-02-23 13:38:59 link

new beta tomorrow. any way of telling the theme to install the font?

Posted by member 1340 on 2004-02-24 00:03:12 link

yes. u can add certain lines in the "theme.ini" file, just the same way as u specify the wallpaper. i just dont remember what those lines were... 8-) ... there is a module to do so also.... loadfont or something... i have to rush now... will search and give the details later...

Posted by member 111608 on 2004-02-25 05:47:29 link

Wow, you're really on a run with them colour schemes. I'm quite interested to see what you come up with in this theme as I too use it.

You know, it's really really hard to find any good walk paper to go with the Green colour scheme...

Posted by member 111608 on 2004-02-25 06:15:11 link

btw - there are two instances of that jDesk call in the script file. Just FYI. I got hit with that when I max/minned it. ;)

Posted by member 111608 on 2004-02-25 09:29:07 link

You know one other thing this theme can use? A scroll left/right for taskbar icons. I know, I have a butt load. One of the disadvantages of running a laptop.

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-02-25 13:59:25 link

hmmm, know any other themes that can do that? I'm a bit of a n00b, and learn through code dissection

update:
all colors mentioned are done, zipped filesize is ~900KB... :/
desktop icons support added (code from austerity used with credit given to omar)
bar transparency is now in the works
as soon is I get info on icon scrolling, I'll impiment that.

Posted by member 111608 on 2004-02-26 00:59:00 link

LightGnome I think has it.

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-02-26 02:14:59 link

ok, I spent 2 hours last night trying to make variable transparency for popup2 (using grdtransparent, it seemed a shme to waste all the effort, see below) through the themepopup work. How do i have textedit comment/uncomment several rows of text, without telling it for sure which are commented? Is this going to be a mess of IF statements, or is there an easier way to code it? If this doesnt make sence, I'll post the actual code later.

No beta till this is worked out!

also, haing the whole bar apear translucent is impossible due to the bottombar/topbar showing through the clock and system tray. It would require almost a complete re-write.

I realized that I could shrink filesize quite a lot as well. Turns out, windows' thumbs.db was in every folder, and it wasnt being compressed much.

Posted by member 109035 on 2004-02-26 06:22:02 link

Tools > Folder Options > Uncheck hide protected operating system files will show you thumbs.db. Sure you already knew this but just in case. Also, I don't think thumbs.db will automatically generate unless you're viewing your files in thumbnail view. Try view list, and view protected operating system files.

Posted by member 1340 on 2004-02-26 11:45:10 link

instead of commenting and uncommenting using textedit... use IF ELSE statements and edit the variables. example ::
IF transvalue 0
grdtransparent statements...
ELSE IF transvalue 1
grdtransparent statements2...
ENDIF

now u can define that variable transvalue in some place.
Use text edit to replace its value with what u want...
!textreplace @$path$file.rc@ @transvalue *@ @transvalue 0@

U can have as many items in the IF ELSE statements... just make sure u dont mess them up.
Also remember !textreplace is much better than uncommenting/commenting and also than !textappend or !textreplace.

if u have any problems... go ahead... /me very sleeeepy now... ;)

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-02-26 12:17:56 link

that is sooooooo obvious... I am such a dumbass...
*fixes*
*checks todo list*
Other ideas are stupid/useless/impossible, I'm gonna release this as soon as task scrolling is implimented...

edit:litegnome doesnt do it. I checked. i set my rez to 800x600 and opened around 50 explorer windows. It jsut shrinks the entries

Posted by member 111608 on 2004-02-26 14:49:55 link

Ghost does it. And it's not Taskbar scrolling, it's SysTray scrolling. Sorry (another dumbass here). I always get them two words mixed up...

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-02-27 02:20:07 link

even better, even I could make use of that!

Posted by member 128915 on 2004-02-29 18:17:29 link

hi ppl ... is it possible to get back the desktop icons ? would be fine ... thx

Posted by member 51690 on 2004-03-01 01:44:05 link

hey, i love this theme but am having a few probs. im using the nonstep2 posted above, but i just closed litestep, then opened it up again, and a few of the images are not showing up. here is the task bar from a screenshot..

http://students.washington.edu/rubenr/bar.jpg

so yeah, like the end images, the 'amp,' 'sys,' and all the other things are not showing up. but if i change colors of the theme, all the backgrounds for the clock and what not change accordingly. anyone know what i can do? ah and i am looking forward to the new beta :)

edit: fixed

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-03-02 15:07:52 link

leberwurst: its in the new beta on its way

Dnyl:
ctrl - alt -f1
click recycle. that help?

I got lazy. Back to work now on this then...

Posted by member 51690 on 2004-03-03 04:31:48 link

nah, didnt work, so i made a hotkey to togglemodules, and that seems to do the trick. sometimes have to do it more than once, but yeah, it works.

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-03-03 12:25:30 link

Is it like that with all themes or just this one?

Posted by member 51690 on 2004-03-04 07:48:22 link

first time this has happened to me. been through a number of different themes and its never happened.

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-03-04 14:23:47 link

Odd. I don;t know what to reccomend. If you figure something out to go in a RC file that fixes it, post the code and I'll put it in the final release.

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-03-09 11:12:38 link

My PC died, so the final release, instead of being within a few days of now, could be a week or more. If the hard drive is fcked, Im not going to redo it all. Litestep is buggy for me, and I've stopped using it until I get my new PC (allready in the works before the current one died) running.

Posted by member 51690 on 2004-03-12 04:31:38 link

ok so i just noticed why that problem was going on. anytime i right click the desktop for the pop up menu, or shift click for the other popup menuall the buttons go disappear. reload the modules and its all good though. maybe that helps. i dont know what to do. thanks

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-03-12 11:50:54 link

well, my PC is ok now, but im still going to wait for the new one before doing more work. damn system tray...

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-03-15 13:53:39 link

hi

i have some probs with the nonstep beta and im really glad to know there is someone working on that theme - nice job!
But as with the original version there is something messed up for me =(
the AMP VOL SYS and CMD thingys that shall show up right to the buttons when pressed are all stuck to the upper left of my screen - http://www.staff-sax.de/Zwischenablage01.jpg - how do i get this to work the way its supposed to?

2nd thing is: as u also can see in the sceeny most of the taskbar is beeing shown on top of running apps - id rather like to have it displayed in the background.

and finally, does anyone know if and where i could find a rainmeter skin that looks like the non|step logo to te lower left?
that would be awesome

*itching for the next beta*
muuuu

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-03-16 11:15:58 link

1. not sure, what resolution are you using?

2. that can be made optional, i'll put it on the list of stuff to do.

3. I'll make one. why the hell not. :D

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-03-17 08:04:24 link

ups did i write rainmeter? i ment rainlendar of course
sorry

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-03-18 02:15:05 link

i think you'll need to let it die for a week until i get my new PC working. This is my dads laptop, and he wont let me install litestep... I'll upload what i've done so far if i get time...

coding sucks.... :D
see ya!

Is there any possible way to make it so that the task text bar (the one that displays the title of whatever is open) can display foreign language characters? For example, when I open up various IM windows with friends, they might have Chinese characters in their name, and they show up in the task text bar as: ?????? or what not.

I'm just curious if there's a fix, as it would look more aesthetically appealing.

Posted by member 1340 on 2004-03-23 00:21:01 link

u can do that by using a chinese font instead of the one used. edit the font used by the tasks module in theme.rc and change it to the one that displays your chinese characters. this will solve teh ????? that shows up.

Posted by member 130570 on 2004-03-23 04:27:09 link

This is by far the best theme i'be ever installed. It does has some flaws, but nothing a little searching won't fix. Thanx a lot guys.

Posted by member 130570 on 2004-03-23 04:29:27 link

I just noticed my english and my typing sucked :)
*Feeling stupid now*

What is the best way to start with programming Litestep themes?

Posted by member 130570 on 2004-03-23 04:33:09 link

Would it be possible to show icons in the popup menus?

Posted by member 137160 on 2004-03-23 07:39:48 link

@ 143lsstep:

I'm not sure that replacing the font that the theme.rc runs will make it so that the text taskbar can display Chinese characters. Since this is an English OS of WinXP, there is no installed Chinese fonts, but I did install East Asian Language Support (hence why my instant messengers can display Chinese characters). However, the text taskbar still can't display Chinese chars even after I replace the fonts in the theme.rc...Got any other ideas? This has partially to do with the taskbar also not being able to display special characters like the º (degree) symbol.

Also, is it possible to put in a temperature monitor (for the motherboard)? I'm currently using the [mbmTemperature(2)] command, but all it displays is 0 C. Funny thing, it definitely works with another theme that I've tried running. I've made sure that Task.dll and Label.dll, but it still doesn't like to display it properly. Got any ideas on this as well?

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-03-24 14:37:21 link

@OnE!

When u know what u wanna change [the icons] and u got an idea which module would do this [prolly the popup mod] >> try reading the documentation ...

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-03-25 14:06:25 link

muhKuh, you seem interested enough, want to co-develop this job?
I swear, when i get my new mobo, i'll resume work!

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-03-28 10:56:36 link

well, since i changed this and that it now works for my resolution ... but im so fuckin lazy to do this for every res twice [bottom and top bar] ... hmmmm get ya mobo and tell me once ya ready to do some coding - ill see what i can do

the only things im till havin trouble with is that some things want to stay on top i.e. if i browse in full screen [f11] ... that would be::
systray
tasks
vwm
lsxcommand
lsslider
and jamp

if someone knows how to tell em to stay in the background that would be sweet!

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-03-28 13:22:30 link

I finally RMA'd the faulty one. I SHOULD (but might not) have a working system ready to code in under a week.

Posted by member 140161 on 2004-03-29 00:57:38 link

Is it possible to change the font used by non|step? My Win2K won't install the .pfb, says it's invalid or damaged.

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-03-29 04:07:30 link

@sciurus
u could try using this Stan... [also in the misc folder] font
just replace every "nonstep" in the config files which is behind some font-whatever tag with the font u like to be be displayed

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-04-01 01:34:39 link

hmmmm ... nobody here who knows how to tell em modules to lay low?

well, i guess the settings like SysTrayAlwaysOnTop false would work correctly, but there is this gray taskbar background wich would then stay on top instead ...
=/

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-04-01 02:59:18 link

hmmmm ... i nearly got it - the shortcut that displays the bar is the troublemaker so i commented it off and told everything to stay low ... it works but i have no backgraound for the taskbar now - so i wanted to create a Label like this

BarLabelX 0
BarLabelY 0
BarLabelWidth ResolutionX
BarLabelHeight 44
BarLabelImage topbar-kl.bmp ;modded 1px version of the bar
BarLabelOnLeftClick !PopupCommandTasks -598 42

but its not being displayed, what am i missing here?

please help!

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-04-01 03:55:57 link

dont variables (ResolutionX) need $ round them? I havent even looked at a .rc for weeks, so i forget...

also, modded is spelt wrong in the comment...

Posted by member 1340 on 2004-04-01 11:13:58 link

yes they do.... $ResolutionX$ and quotes if variables contain spaces.... "$pathtosomedir$" ...

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-04-01 14:38:24 link

well, that doesnt help - even BarLabelWidth 50 or whatever doesnt work

what else do i haave to set in order to display that label?
or even better, how do i get the bar shortcut to display in the background?

well as for now i cut out the systray, vwm, jamp and clock area from the bar, but thats kinda silly and of course only works for my resolution ... i dont know what to do ... ill peek into the label doc this weekend

btw is the order of the commands important?
i.e. if i create A before B, B will be on top and visible

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-04-02 03:35:38 link

I think the theme could do with having the bar redone in several images and put together again in theme.rc

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-04-02 06:45:43 link

thats exactly what i was thinking all the time coz that 1600px long bar and these strange positionings kinda foils dual screen support ...

and, Nobby, like the samples i sent u some code is written more often then necessary - for instance we could split that theme up for lowRes [

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-04-02 08:58:52 link

that 1600 pix bar is needed for 1600 resolutions. solution: separate bars for each resolution. yesno?

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-04-04 16:31:19 link

i was thinking more like a dynamic one :D
see my Label code

Muh, what windows theme is that you're using in the screenshot you posted? I must have it! :D

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-04-08 10:20:44 link

its called AxiosWB
and yeah, i love it 2 :D

well, since its kinda old i updated it slightly ... see the new screeny http://www.staff-sax.de/Zwischenablage01.jpg
in case ya wondering - the fireFox skin is called Smoke

have fun

hmmmm thats sad
found a lovely trillian skin, a winamp skin, and a WindowBlinds skin [although its a lil buggy] and collected some new ideas for the final non|step version - i even found someone who claims to be in contact with ursula2k ... no reply to my mail yet

hmmmm its gonna take quite some time, BUT the final non|step version i already 'see' on my desktop looks and feels fuckin awesome

good luck with ya new hardware

winamp:: http://streamripper.sourceforge.net/files/Nonstep_1.wsz
trillian:: http://files.customize.org/trillian/nonstepgeneric1-0.zip

if anyone could do a conversion of that msstyle thingy to a real WB skin with all its extras like the explorer bars and these explorer icons http://www.customize.org/details/26969 ... maybe theres someone with some talent and spare time ...

would be nice

the reason of this is:: ihave my start menu and control panel in my popup.rc / recycle got a shortcut [ctrl+alt+r] / i barely swich colors [cos at the moment i only altered the orange theme :P so the others wouldnt work in the first place] - i only use this menu to start my endSession()
http://www.staff-sax.de/nonstep/endSession.jpg
so some usefull additions to this menu are appreciated :o
. move the start menu and quicklaunch into the theme menu to get a highly needed button for ...
. NET which will start the browser [leftclick] and the mail app [rightclick]
. FILE well let me show my current config [although it not working like id like it to]
!execute ["$FileManager$" /e,"e:\-downloads-"] !execute ["$FileManager$" "$drives$"]
so its starting the explorer in my working dir on a leftclick and the "my computer" on a rightclick
well, i know ... this depends on if someone uses explorer at all or TotalCommander or the like
but ill implement these actions as themevars so you could alter em easily
. TXT - leftclick textEditor, rightclick IM [?]
. rightclicking the DateLabel will turn it into upTime, leftclicking will change back
. changing the display of desktop icons via the settings menu [topleft bottomleft whatever]
. adding a floating XProp i really miss this handy tool
something like here http://www.staff-sax.de/nonstep/xpropAndBars.png
. also ill definitely add those bars u can see there for cpu/netIn/netOut [others?]
but more like this http://www.staff-sax.de/nonstep/bars.jpg
. add a skin for Rainlendar and theme support [u can switch it on/off] [omar structure:: C:\LiteStep\personal\rainlendar]
. skin will look like this http://www.staff-sax.de/nonstep/rainlendar.png with the nonstep colors
. optional wallpaper [i really often change it so i will obviously skip this feature but supply some :o]

. collecting matching skins:: WinAmp, Trillian, WB, FireFox, icons
http://www.staff-sax.de/nonstep/skins.jpg
. just found this http://www.staff-sax.de/nonstep/console2.jpg but its very laggy when using all the 'nice' features + theres no way to use the clipboard while in 'design mode' :(
does anyone know good alternatives for cmd.exe?
. new Readme in nonstep style with all the new credits :D

and now it your turn ... please criticize everything and add your thoughts to this list - maybe google showed you some more nice goodies, in this case poste em here!

i have altered and converted the windows skin
http://www.staff-sax.de/nonstep/wb_nonstep.zip

feel free to test it an report the bugs that are still in - of course u need the nonstep fonts which are included!
if someone knows on how to correct the width of letters like ä,ö,... in the nonstep font, please tell me - i might be able to correct that in a ttf font but im unable to convert it in the first place - havent found a suitable tool yet ...

More changes have been made, and a "night | dry blood" theme added. It'll be uploaded to http://nonstep.xzxzzx.com/beta/nonstep2.2.lsz sometime today.

hey! thats my screenshot :)
anyway .. great to see someone working on nonstep again.
havent been here for some time, and my nonstep hasnt been working anyway until recently (some weird problem with the taskbar module it once used..)
just wanted to let you know that im going to implement the xprop again (i must have the code and graphics somewhere on my hdd). and of course 'my' white colour scheme .. or vanilla.

those bars werent litestep, they were made with samurize. and i doubt that i still have them, but they arent hard to re-do.

just wanted to let you know this, i can give you the xprop stuff and the colour schemes if you want them.

be patient :)

@garland
feel free to send anything usefull my way
[es ist nicht mein Freund, sondern meine Schwester mit angehangener 'Band' ... muss noch weng dran gebastelt werden =) ]

i didnt know of samurize as i wrote this but now as i do - i love this app ... sadly when spreading the meters across my screen the cpu usage goes up extremely - also i cant run my winamp equalizer smoothly without my cpu meter rumming through my wallpaper, so i atm have to run 3 samurize clients to display my configs

white color scheme could be included but not in this CounterStrike optics :o

and as i said before ... if u have any suggestions, post em here!

this is what it looks so far

what counterstrike optics ?

so, what did i do?
- added xprop back into it
- got my vanilla colours back (unfinished)
- rainlendar (unfinished too i think, im not 100% satisfied yet)
- desaturated tray and tasks (messes up those nice vanilla colours though ..)

still to do:
- no idea right now, i guess it will never be finished..

[muhkuh- ok, i thought i knew you from another forum (DF)]

Posted by member 100794 on 2004-05-19 18:40:55 link

you have to release that winamp and rainlendar skin :)

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-05-20 03:46:47 link

as far as i know, your desaturated tray and tasks will be lost when the color scheme is ported to the newest version of nonstep (we hacked it to pieces to get rid of the stupid bottombar.bmp/topbar.bmp)

It'll be at least a week or more before the next release, since we're now working on a major overhaul. The advantage being lower memory usage, and the ability to make the whole bar translucent.

Since the switch to PNG i've had the idea to run all teh files through photoshop and reduce the colors to only as many as are used in each file, Does anyone know if the PNG format does this automatically when saving, or if theres a tool that can do it as a batch conversion?

well, its not finished right now, but for all of u out there who cant wait to get their hands on this and might send in some bug reports in return

By the way, the code has been completely rewritten, and (im my experience) memory usage has been roughly halved.

Color themes are not yet implemented, as the graphics need cut and modified slightly, I'll be starting to do that later today. If you want any colors made a priority, just say, and I'll do them first.

If anyone wants to help out, with color themes or anything else, drop us a line.

wooo, awesome work guys...

Few suggestions:
With the taskbar at the bottom, the LSMail indicator seems to block the "NON | STEP: Digital Workspace" image.
Changing LSMailY -105 in Theme.rc = fixed

Would be *really* great to know when something minimised is trying to take focus (like a previous poster mentioned re: receiving an IM msg)

Also I'd love an alternate taskbar mode. So that icons + text are displayed, and are spread out over the length of the taskbar. I'm often flicking between 3-4 programs, and often different folders etc, and a.)its annoying to click on a tiny icon when there is so much space available there. b.) its impossible to tell which window is which when you have a lot of folder windows open.

It's a nice touch having the labels cross fade between each other, but I'd love to be able to speed up the process a bit (perhaps user selectable speeds)

I've picked up the trillian pro and winamp skins (there is a different skin for winamp5 available too)..

Having trouble tracking down anything else to convert my desktop to being completly non|step

hi DaRKoN_

the lsmail thingy was just something i wanted to have since samurize didnt do this job as it was supposed to and since im always using top mode i ... well, its fixed now

hmmmm - for the focus thing
this should work, the needed settings are there, but it aint working for me either ... that will need a lil research

as for that alternate taskbar mode - ill se what i can do ... but for the time beeing ... feel free to code that and it will be included

i already talked to andymon to be able to speed up the fading ... lets see ...

we will put together a list of matching skins later on ... i planed to do a Rainmeter skin too
hope u found the WindowBlinds skin some posts up from here

so

lets celebrate the 1000+ views of this thread and the upcoming release of the full version!

LSMailY -100
else
LSMailX 140
LSMailY -75 ;for just one mail account set it to -66

muhKuh, I did find the WB skin from above, however it gives me an error when I try and use it. Was something along the lines of "missing file xxx, are you sure this is a windowsblinds skin?"... Then again im a WB newb so it could just be me. I'll have a play with it later tonight.

Any suggestions for Firefox theme?

Posted by member 100794 on 2004-06-15 09:51:24 link

it isnt a wb theme. its actually a msstyle, so you will have to use stylexp or a patch (i forget the name =[)

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-06-15 12:02:27 link

nope - there are both in here, the original visual style and the WindowBlinds skin i converted and altered a lil bit to better match the theme

@DaRKoN_ - Smoke would be your new FireFox skin - btw FF 0.9 out!
http://mozthemes.tk/

if u keep getting this error for the wb skin - tell me so i could try to fix it - its working fine here

muuu

Posted by member 170636 on 2004-06-17 21:50:42 link

@muhKuh - The error I am getting for WB is:
"There appears to be no .uis file in this skin. Are you sure it is a WindowsBlinds skin?"

EDIT: Nevermind me! I figured it out, I couldn't point to the zip file that held the skin, it would spew about missing some file, but if i pointed it just to the wba file, everything works fine.!

EDIT #2: Dropped using it, looks pretty cool, but lacking usability and was a bit rough on the eyes - too much white?

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-06-18 00:44:08 link

white? there is no white except for the normal window background ... every thing is the same gray as the theme, even the exact same gray for my wallpaper and transparency :o

the lacking usability part i dont understand ... windowblinds doesnt change anything it just skins your windows ??? but if u mean the LS theme ... tell me what ya missing and maybe we'll add it ...

muhKuh

Posted by member 170636 on 2004-06-18 01:27:19 link

I mean the colours make usability more difficult, as it lacks contrast. Ok, so its not all white, but a lot of very light grey, it's so bright I'm having to squint at my screen :)

Also, behind the File, Edit menu text etc on some programs (photoshop, notepad2) they are a bright pink colour (something to do with transparency?)

Anyway:
http://members.optushome.com.au/ctolkien/outlook.png

Now, I don't know about you, but after looking at that above pic for 5 seconds my eyes start to strain... too *bright* !

I tried to fiddle with it and it ended up just looking crap =\

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-06-18 07:44:49 link

well some like it - and some dont ... it will always be that way ... thats why there are skins and themes in the first place :o
as far as it concerns the LS theme, just wait for the dark color versions to be implemented!
regarding WB ... i doubt that there will be any new versions - at least its not on my TODO ... there are some more skins that play nicely with nonstep - i just reinstalled my system and aint got the time to put back all my skins yet but one i remember is AxiosWB - i even had nice black skins ... there will be a list of that in the full release of nonstep - just gotta remember to do that :D

the grphic errors u get - could u make a screenshot of that and tell me what version of WB you are using?
its 4.30.026 here and i got no errors so far =(

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-06-19 09:01:50 link

yeah the wb theme is buggy.

I might make dark versions of the windows style though. once the ls ones are done. im *** lazy. right now im putting a rainmeter in the vwm space.

the censor here is a nazi... lets see...

*** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***

hehe, all different words

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-06-20 04:37:26 link

wtf?

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-06-20 05:52:38 link

1. complaint of windowblinds theme being ugly and not being color ajustable.

2. declaration of lazyness and announcement of intent to put shiney things in vwm space. (now almost complete, need your help)

3. edited in observation of sensitivity of censor.

4. several tests of the censor's sensitivity.

5. notice stating that all were unique words.

Posted by member 170636 on 2004-06-20 19:50:54 link

I'm actually adjusted to the WB theme now that I've been using it for a few days - I do like the look of it.

I'll post a screenie up of the issues I'm having with the WB skin up a bit later, but about half the programs I use have a bright pink colour behind the File, Edit etc menu. Office 2003 programs are now all blue as well (they pull their colour info from windows)

However the major issue now is that somethings don't work particularily well with WB, it's not just related to this skin. Things like alert windows and search windows in firefox go fullscreen and I can't read the data available on them.

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-06-21 05:34:17 link

muhkuh, i need your help with this perfmon.

Posted by member 174201 on 2004-06-27 01:52:13 link

I know that these have probably been answered, but searching through this post served me no help.

a) how do I get all of my tasks to show up? With all of the programs that I constantly run... I only see 10, and I'm running 1600x1200. (code unedited as of yet for this.)

b) how can I make the taskbar buttons change color when it is updated...such as with instant messengers

c) there is a line about 5px tall between the taskbar and my maximized windows...

d) under the clock I can HARDLY read the date...hardly.

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-06-27 04:30:33 link

a)i use 1600x1200 and AFAIK it works fine for me...

b)it should do that, but i agree it doesnt. I'll restart into LS later and check it and point (a) as well. (using explorer right now because i was trying to get windows networking to fix itself...)

c)if you are using a windows or windowblinds visual style it can mess up the border size. i'll move the code for that into themevars and add instructions on what way to change it.

d)are the fonts installed? otherwise, squint. :P

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-06-27 05:19:53 link

as for (b) its a known bug ... the needed settings are inside theme.rc and i already talked to the dev of tasks on what to ... he stated that it maybe is caused by hooking tasks into a label - so if it will highlight when not hooked he might be able to fix this - didnt get a chance to test it yet tho ... my exams are eating up spare time

(a) i noticed that too sometime - but i hardly ever use more than 10 apps and its not limited by the code either [at least not for your resolution] but maybe it has to do with the hooking too
well, i thought about changing to xTaskbar anyway coz of these strange bugs and to realize this erlier mentioned bigger taskbar with optional text to display alongside with the task tiles ... so stay tuned for updates
expect some in about 2 weeks

nobby is working on some rainmeter stuff ... but more on that when its done

PS: i forgot to take out the wallpaper - its nothing nonstep related - i just added a theme.ini to not being forced to switch wallpapers manually when i was working with another theme which changed it ... but there will be some nice wallpaper in the final theme ...

RE: The above Winamp3/5 skin that I've been using for awhile. How do I go about changing the promoted 'colour schemes' ? I remember doing it previously when first installing.. But cannot find any option relating to it now... a check of the contents of the skin only has the orange one in there?

Another suggestion!

Any chance of swapping out icondesk and replacing it with xlabel to display the icons on the desktop?.

There seems to be some limitations with icondesk, eg you can't drag icons around!, another weird one, is html links, their icon is that of IE, even though IE is not assosiacted with them, and when browsing the desktop through explorer they come up as firefox looking links, and when using xlabel for the desktop, they come up correctly as firefox looking links too.

I'm not sure if it's possible, but the funcionality I am looking for, is being able to drag stuff from the desktop, and hold it over things in the taskbar, that app then becomes active and you can drag it into it. I'm a big drag and drop fan :)

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-05 12:13:06 link

i already tried xlabel as desktop module - it wasnt working like it should so i skipped that ... u can drop things onto the desktop tho [should be active in the latest version - if not, tell me]
well, since xlabel has evolved somewhat i guess ill try again, but i doubt that u are able to drop something from the desktop on the taskbar with it ...

DaRKoN_ - since u have so many suggestions, what about some ideas for the sysBar - something useful gotta be in there some day :P

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-07-05 13:52:56 link

if you meant switching color themes, this can be changed from the preferences window.

for editing them, theres a file called gammagroups.xml that you have to edit.

Posted by member 1031 on 2004-07-05 22:20:01 link

DaRKoN_, muhKuh: The dragging onto the taskbar feature you mention is implemented in the latest version of xTaskbar :)

Also, im adding grouping support and middleclick funtionality.

I love non step, its one of the best themes out there right now, altho I am having some issuse with the size of the font and readability. Is there a way to increase the space in between the chracters or change the font altogether

Nevermind Figured it out.

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-07 23:09:30 link

well, changing the font nearly means destroying the flavour of the theme ... as for the icons ... u can easily change that one in the themevars.rc

Posted by member 111608 on 2004-07-08 06:46:54 link

Definatly runs smoother than the previous version I had, but stuff's changed.

No more 'App' menu, which really kills my Quick Launch menu which I use a lot (since YzDock doesn't support subfolders) [and yeah, I know I can use right-click for this]. And the colour schemes are all gone. I used a grey theme which went perfectly with my WinXP theme and Kakashi desktop pict.

Any chance in getting the themes back? :(

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-08 07:10:27 link

the quicklaunch folder is inside the popup by default, so theres no urge to have it twice inside the theme - in case u changed ya popup - change it back

the colors will come back once its done - thats why the theme is posted just here and not in the themes section

btw [and that applies to everyone] u can post your color wishes here - with a pic or a hexValue of the desired color!

and guice, dont take it personal, but if u [as well as any other] have some real complaints - name em - and it might change, but "stuff's changed" for me is pretty equal to " "

in addition ... anyone could easily add their own color to the theme and send it in - ill post a lil howto later when i really finished to filter all unused graphics out :D ... Ankle's gerneric theme pointed me to some more graphical cadavers ...

im experiencing some errors with the xTaskbar - maybe someone could confirm that?
when i minimize an app vie the taskbar it sometimes [duno under which circumstances yet] stay highlighted and i cant maxmize it by clicking on the taskbar tile again :(
i hope its not only happening to me

there will be a new version for u saturday morning CET including the how to add colors tutorial
stay tuned

Muhkuh, when you do fish out all the scrap images, I'll add/change things.

i've modified the shuffle/repeat buttons to look less hideous, i did it about 3 releases ago and you've failed to put them in even one. (mostly my fault for not sending you them :) )

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-09 04:37:14 link

hmmmm, i think they really match and im quite used to em, but dont hesitate to send the new ones over, ill give em a shot

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-10 05:05:06 link

as promised, here it is::
http://www.sinistrals.net/nonstep/files/nonstep-v3.0.2.1.lsz
see the updated readme for changes

the updated winamp buttons are not included since i still got no mail fronm nobby =(

the tutorial on adding more color to nonstep will follow today

have fun!

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-10 07:52:37 link

the updated winamp buttons are not included since i still got no mail from nobby =(
now they are - nice work nobby!

ok, for anyone who might want to add new colors ...

. choose a color!
. do a copy of the orange folder inside the images folder
. rename it to the color you are thinking of
. change the graphics to match your color
. copy C:\LiteStep\themes\nonstep II\config\colors\orange.rc an rename it to your color.rc
. change all those color settings to suit your new version
. edit the popuptheme.rc to include a new line like this
*Popup "classic | yourcolor" !switchColor yourcolor
. recycle
. send it in!

good luck

DONT try to convert the night themes, im redoing them.

feel free to convert any of the classic/dark ones though, just leave a message here so they dont get done twice...

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-10 12:49:30 link

i just tried my own tutorial and as a result some more color settings got transfered to the color.rc belonging to each theme version
get the updated nonstep here
http://www.sinistrals.net/nonstep/files/nonstep-v3.0.2.2.lsz

and you will get this, too
http://www.sinistrals.net/nonstep/images/screens/darkStep.png

its just the inversion of orange - nothing special yet, as it only was a test ...

btw - no need to convert the xProp crosshair cos it adjusts itself again against the background

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-07-10 13:48:50 link

couldnt you put the xprop crosshair in nonstep/images/ then? saves it being redundantly copied...

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-10 16:47:08 link

then u gotta adjust the image folder for that and 168Byte are realy no big deal - u should yell at me because of this damn big blue version instead :D
Photoshop did a bad job there, but i only noticed that when uploading ... u might change that anyway ...

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-11 07:54:39 link

updates updates updates

nonstep got a new shiny homepage
http://nonstep.sinistrals.net/

and a new color

i am using *NetLoadModule rainlendar-0.19.2 in my theme.rc but rainlendar is invisable on my desktop. i cant see it at all. it is available to me in my taskbar though as an icon so i know itts working. i know that it has to be enabled in some themes, but my theme (non|step) does not have that option. I set the rainlendar.ini to x-0, y-0 coordanites and still nothing. does anyone have anyideas that could help me? thank you

Posted by member 124792 on 2004-07-11 20:41:31 link

i am having the same prob, reainlender is in the taskbar but not visible

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-11 20:46:53 link

i got rainmeter to work fine, but rainlendar is just not working

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-12 04:46:26 link

strange that rainlendar is on the taskbar - it never was for me - my guess is that cos of u [oneunshamed] changed it to be netload, it doesnt find the skin folder anymore and so cant display anywhere!
That was the reason why i didnt use notload, maybe there is a setting which can tell rainlendar where the skin folders is - i gotta admit i never really searched for such a setting since everyone who used the omar installer has rainlendar sitting right where im loading it from ...

oneunshamed - what are you using rainmeter for?
can i have a screenshot? cos rainmeter is definitely on my todo list ... im just searching for a nice way to do it ...

Posted by member 9617 on 2004-07-12 08:26:00 link

w00t my account works agian, thanks DeVilbOi.
v3.0.5 is up...Again. Hopefully no mistakes this time. :P
http://nonstep.sinistrals.net/

I don't use/have rainlendar so I cannot comment on the issues relating to it. If anyone here has a Windows box thats not XP/2k: I'd appreciate comments on how the theme works or doesn't work in this case I believe.

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-12 20:43:32 link

yeah it was funky, but with some help from 143lsstep i got it to work by copying the rainlendar.rc from the defualt litestep theme and pasting it in non|step's config folder. i made a new folder in there as well named rainlender whcih holds all of the themes. Then i went to my theme.rc and in place of the rainlendar line that already exists i put,

if ShowRainlendar
LoadModule "$ModulesDir$rainlendar-0.19.2.dll"
include "$ConfigDir$rainlendar.rc"

after doing that i could shift+click and enable/disable rainlendar

now as far what i am using rainmeter for, it just tells me my cpu, memory, and swap usage. What i would like to see for nonstep is a rainmeter them that does this and also says the weather. (i have seen some rainmeter skins that do this).

here is a screenshot of my current desktop

http://www.bigredadvertising.com/desktop.jpg

here is a desktop of someone using there own version of non|step. notice in the bottom right rainmeter looks awesome... this guy to my knowladge has not released these skins. in this shot i have also never seen that winamp skin. i would love to have it

http://www.customize.org/view/29055

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-12 20:45:52 link

a nice rainlendar skin for nonstep would be rad too

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-12 20:57:53 link

yeah i know - i already rebuild these bars [ http://www.litestep.net/upload/profiles/nonstepII_48370-688.png ] with samurize [these are samurize too] but cant really find a way to recreate em with rainmeter since they are no normal but intelligent bars which display context sensitively 100% for 96k [dsl], 500k [wlan] and 100MBit ... if somebody knows how to do that on rainmeter, that would be really awesome!

btw - ill try to include that rainlendar.rc by default

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-12 20:59:26 link

the skin is on the todo-list
something like r-calendar but slightly bigger ó.Ò

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-12 23:23:34 link

what would you think about doing the bars like in my second pic with samurize that showed "cpu, mem, swap, internet up and down" or whatever usefull stats and then for rainmeter doing a news grabber/weather condition grabber like in
http://www.customize.org/details/34568
(the above example does not include weather)

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-13 15:17:07 link

is samurize available as a litestep module?

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-13 17:03:46 link

nope and its kinda unreliable thats why i started using lsmail and why ill switch over to rainlendar as well - as samurize is also quite a resource hug and userunfriendly to configure ... stay tuned the bars should be ready tomorrow when everything works like i think it should do ...

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-13 17:35:37 link

for all of you who want weather info to display - u could suggest some nice graphics/icon set for that

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-13 18:17:14 link

ill take a look on the icon set for ya ;)

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-13 19:37:27 link

well... i looked for a while and the best i could find were the first 3 options in this site http://www.jdawiseman.com/papers/trivia/weather-icons.html

anyone find any better?

Posted by member 124792 on 2004-07-13 20:11:12 link

when icons are enabled, the internet explorer icon is always shown, ive tried a couple of things but either it wont delete or the icon will not change. Is there a way to edit a config file to tell it not load that icon

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-13 20:59:29 link

mrpotatohead - to delete IE from the desktop, turn off special icons!

no problem
the bars are nearly finished - the math part is a bit tricky :/

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-14 10:44:29 link

lol, take your time.
(off subject): if i wanted to add a "seconds" counter visible on the non|step main clock, how would i go about doing that?

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-14 11:27:27 link

u would add :ss to the timeLabelText in top or bottom.rc but it looks ugly as hell :o

Posted by member 93920 on 2004-07-14 15:01:11 link

any way you can turn the 34 hour clock to a 12h clock?

Posted by member 1316 on 2004-07-14 15:02:09 link

nope. but you could turn the 24 hour clock into a 12 hour clock.

Posted by member 93920 on 2004-07-14 15:05:02 link

you know what I ment.. anti-typo whore

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-14 15:13:58 link

thanks, how would i make the "seconds" text smaller than the rest of the text?

as in this clock http://www.customize.org/view/29055

dssurge all you have to do to change it is right click the clock and chose

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-07-14 16:41:38 link

with dificulty. to make it fit you'd need to find the code for the clock label's size, and reduce it. then check the docs for the syntax for time formatting.

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-14 17:25:56 link

DSSurge - deuce aint a typo whore - he was just trying to tell u that sometimes a normal user would be curious what a right click could do on an object like the time label ó.Ò
and the second thing he was trying to tell u is: "Think before you write or ask silly questions that are so obvious!"

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-14 17:38:13 link

oneunshamed - ill see tomorrow if it looks ok and then it may be in the next release as an option for the clock

the bars are ready except for the context sensitive part i wanted and there is a bug in xLabel / rainmeter which spoils all the fun right now - lets see

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-14 21:41:51 link

sounds good muhKuh

man Nobby id say... i have no idea how to do this. Has anyone seen any documentation? i checked online a few places... and nothing

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-15 02:21:39 link

its right on your HD - check $LiteStepDir$modules\docs :P

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-15 11:56:49 link

well, sorry for being so dumb. i looked in there too and it seems like its a lost cause. lol i just wish the guy that did it could give a little input, i dont think its ugly the way he has it. If somone could make it more clear id love to hear it. Am i uptight for wanting to be so precise?

its working here too, but since standard 07_53 aint a fixed width font its still looking kinda ugly ... thats why its not in 3.0.6 ... so id only like to know what font u used?

btw there is a new systray module which supports those lil speech bubble tool tips ... and icon tinting which really works - not like the VTray currently active in the theme - as soon as it supports icon scrolling and lsBoxHook it might be included

muhKuh, In the pic of your desktop (in your profile) that icons are you using there?!

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-07-22 04:14:21 link

anything you need to send can go to nobby@xzxzzx.com

I have no limit to filesize within the limits of the hdd on the server or my sanity when downloading from it...

Also, color variations like night, or alterations to vanilla cna be done via "actions" in photoshop.
For creating color variations, i make an action in which i create a levels ajustment layer (which i use to make the color changes) then flatten visible layers and save to a new folder.

then stop recording the action and go to the file menu anc choose to do a batch job. select the action you just made, and the vanilla theme folder to work from, and a new folder to save to. It will then do 15-30 minutes work coloring in mspaint/photoshop in 1 or 2.

I am new to litestep, but I really like the concepts. I am using Non-Step and reall like. I was wondering if anyone knows how to change the AMP button to either control iTunes or just remove its winamp functionality and have it just load iTunes in a similar fashion to the TXT button and notepad.

Thanks

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-07-22 09:25:49 link

AFIAK, itunes cant be controlled in this way. why dont you try winamp5, QCD player or foobar to see if you want to use them instead (all 3 use the same control system)

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-22 12:55:24 link

is the nonstep site down? its doing some funky stuff

[edit] apparently it is ok, i must have a messed up link

Posted by member 9617 on 2004-07-23 18:27:42 link

Since I seem to be sleeping whenever Nobby tries to contact me, send the winamp theme and others to ankle{_AT_}sinistrals{_DOT_}net and I'll try to get them up asap.

There is a bunch of modified versions of the winamp classic skin and some changes from Non|Step X we want to add to the theme but I'm waiting on a reply from the creator as they don't appear to be avaiable for download anywhere.

iTunes support is quite unlikely but proper foobar support should be added in the future.

Posted by member 9617 on 2004-07-27 02:59:57 link

Soon™, just want to kill the fonts not installing issue , get foobar to work with it and add the dark Non|Step X theme.

Fixed the winamp time display with the minus disapearing when switching between time remaining/past and the minus remaining after closing winamp. Added the two themes(vanilla/white) by garland.

Winamp skins by Guizmo(Green and a updated Orange) and Garland(white) added to the site.

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-28 17:08:29 link

heck ya on the winamp skins guys! was it hard getting guizmo to finally fork those over? I only seem to be having one minor problem with it (this may just be a litestep issue). I have dual monitors that are running at the same res. and for some reason on my main monitor things are slightly magnified causing a few of the fonts to look bigger than they should ect. Using these nonstep winamp skins the information scroller text doesnt seem to fit in the border. Is there a way to make this smaller? i havent seen the option in the winamp 5 preferences for this, only the playlist text. Has anyone heard of the magnify thing or how to fix it if they have? thanks

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-07-28 18:09:29 link

could u give us a screenshot of these glitches?

Posted by member 109836 on 2004-07-29 07:04:46 link

Just a note to say I'm on vacation in the states with no litestep, nonstep or even cable internet. gAyOheL internet is yuk

Posted by member 124792 on 2004-07-29 19:44:23 link

Im having problems with the winamp skins as well. The fonts inside the playlist look a little enlarged. They look nothing like the fonts in Nobby Nobbs's desktop pic. Does any body know of any fixes to maybe name the font you want to use within winamp or another fix?

Posted by member 478 on 2004-07-30 09:43:41 link

mrpotatohead - Just change the 'playlist font size' to 8 in Winamp preferences.

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-30 16:53:28 link

ok, here is a screen of the glitches (though it isnt very clear), like i said the left monitor slightly magnifies everything as compared to the right. I have no idea why. I would be content with just decreasing the scrolling winamp text

(this is probly best viewed if opened in an image editing app and magnified)

Posted by member 124792 on 2004-07-30 18:29:34 link

again thank you for your help, still waitn for the next release :)

Posted by member 180603 on 2004-07-30 18:59:12 link

ok, before i took the new screen shot i opened a folder window and made half of it visible on the right monitor and the other half visible on the left, took a screen grab of it and looked at it in fireworks. There was no visible distortion as is seen while looking at the monitors. This does not happen in the windows xp shell, also I no longer think that this error is confined to nonstep because it also happens in the default litestep theme "Austerity".

strange indeed, its just one of those "litestep" things to put on the list i guess

does anyone just know how to resize the scrolling "current file" info text in winamp?

i took a screen of my winamp skin and set it next to a picture of guizmos so you can see what im talking about. (using the other fonts as a guide you can se that these both are at the same res.)

well guys, none of it matters anymore. I have realized that computers arnt for me because of the way they suck me in. I have been neglecting my God, my girlfriend, and myself. I realized that this and every GUI project or computer represents digital escape that i cant "really" live in. Im not crazy by any means, only moving on to a higher level of enlightenment if you will. This was a difficult but rewarding choice. Think about what you are reading right now the next time you post in a forum or try to tweak something to your specific perfection. At the right moment, it will come back... and it will make sense.

Hey Muhkuh what happend to the Dark blue winamp theme on the nonstep website? I tried looking for it but i can't find it. :( Good Job on the theme though i think it'd be better for a default theme install but it's usablity just rocks.

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-08-05 04:28:34 link

hmmm - the download link is broken - i see ... but i cant fix it from here ... try to contact ankle

and btw - thanks

Posted by member 23367 on 2004-08-05 06:45:17 link

quick question, my monitor cant do a bigger resolution then 1024x768 so some of the amp, vol, sys info gets cut off, how do i shrink that "winamp is off" part of the taskbar a bit?

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-08-05 11:52:31 link

dont worry - thats already been taken care of - probably next week there will be a next release
now that my laptop is in repairs im stuck with a 1024 tft here too and ... well ... its doing fine now in this resolution :D

just gotta take a look at 1152 and 1280 as soon as i get the chance - btw nonstep will not work for any resolution lower than 1024 coz when u ask me: anyone whos working with low resolutions should use something like Blackbox+ that doesnt eat up this much screen space ... nonstep just seems so big at 800x600 thats its no fun to use it anymore ó.Ò

@acme if you just cant wait and want to fix it on youe own - dig into top or bottom.rc where u will have to change the width of all the bars like ampBar and cmdBar - then u gotta change the positioning of the ampSongLabel as well as its width and o let the rest fit your adjustments u gotta alter the titleBar as well as the taskBox ... or you just wait some more days :P

Posted by member 23367 on 2004-08-06 05:36:47 link

uh..i think i can wait :p

since i got the newest version of nonstep (3.?)ive noticed some windows dissapear from the taskbar, like if i have aim and mirc open, sudden;y the aim taskbar thing will dissapear, and all i see is mirc, and i gotta press alt+tab just to see it. Is this a bug in xtaskbar?

muhkuh- on your desktop screen shot on the bottom right hand corner there is some graphics that look like an equalyzer of some sort, it looks like it might be used for rainmeter or some something. Could you enlighten me to what it is?

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-08-18 01:39:13 link

u guessed right but its from samurize ... i dont knoe of any ls module that can do that - otherwise it would already be in this theme :D

Posted by member 23367 on 2004-08-18 03:27:28 link

its not taskgrouping, im saying the bar for whatever program just dissapears, as if the window was closed, but if i hit alt tab, or minimize the window on top, there it is...what can be wrong?

well, i had this kind of problem http://ls-universe.info/forum_viewtopic.php?2.530 ... u may try to update to xTaskbar 1.0.2 and see if this corrects the problem ... otherwise tell andymon about this, must be an xTaskbar problem as far as i understand u

I am having the same problem :(

A recycle brings them all back, but it sure is annoying :(

Posted by member 192996 on 2004-08-18 14:23:33 link

Have two problems with Non|Step:
LsMail doesent show. Know ehere it resides, and can bring up the pop-up menu (partly) but it will not show itself, and when i do a recycle with LsMail active i get a module error and must reset to the standard theme and then back to non|step.

Any idea.

I am kinda familiar to samurize, well I know what it is. Is there anyway you could give me a link or any of your knowledge to get a similar effect to what you have on your desktop? And what exactly it is meaesuring for you?

Posted by member 170636 on 2004-08-18 18:43:47 link

@ einride - LSMail has to be configured, check your themevars file and you will see ;; LSMail.section and fill out the details. Ideally, you want to create a config file in your personal folder that it is trying to include with your mail settings so that you don't have to re enter them everytime you install a new version of litestep.

If you also look at your theme.rc file there is some more settings for LSmail, like setting location if you only have one email account etc.

Posted by member 9617 on 2004-08-18 23:04:44 link

I just did a clean install with XP and SP2 and LiteStep with Non|Step seems to be loading/recycling incredably slow. I'm going to check the modules and see which one is causing it as the default theme doesn't have any problems. Anyone else experiancing this with SP2? Or strange font issues with the F in nonstep.ttf being garbled?

> [muhKuh 04.08.18 @ 04:41] well, i had this kind of problem... u may try to update to xTaskbar 1.0.2 and see if this corrects the problem ...

Still having issues with the taskbar. I tried to update to ver 1.02 of xtaskbar, so i changed the config to reflect the new version, and recycled, and I get an error with the auto downloader, it's like "file downloaded but is currupt" or something along those lines =\

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-08-22 14:42:04 link

the new version is 1.0.2 - this last version number resulted from some bad module upload by andymon :P

Posted by member 169364 on 2004-08-23 00:22:21 link

i have a question. perhaps you geniouses could help me. i just updated from nonstep II 3.0.6 to 3.0.7. and within moments of using the newer theme, i discovered that everytime i click the desktop with any mouse button (even the back, forward buttons on the micorsoft intellimouse) the taskbar, xprop window, and the rainmeter disappear [also the rainmeter will disappear except for the bar inside that actually gauges the speeds, it remains, while everything else disappears], at the same time the icons appear (if i have them set to show), if i click the desktop again, the icons disappear and the taskbar, xprop and rainmeter reappear. this is quit puzzling and rather irritating, i cant seem to find any kind of command in any popup, jdesk, or xtaskbar configs. i talked to ankle already who couldn't reproduce these strange results. i sent ankle my themevars and scriptvars and still couldn't reproduce, perhaps another config is involved, maybe a certain mod? any idea as to what may cause this? and how to fix. thank you.

Posted by member 48370 on 2004-08-23 06:13:25 link

if the old version didnt produce these errors then try reverting to the old module versions ... u may also deactivate some modules untill you find out which mudule is causing the bug - good luck :o

Ok, this is stressing me out, where the heck can I get the 1.0.2 version of X-taskbar? The auto-downloaded version is still reporting being corrupt =\

the new LS version doesnt touch that tho [assuming u DLed the zip and just replaced everything inside $LiteStepDir$]

V. (being curious today)

Posted by member 48370 on 2005-09-19 11:53:19 link

harhar - somebody digging up the old record length post - i realize its about fucking time to release some new version since more than one year passed since the last post :o

I was going to do a news update to the nonstep site, but my account for its ftp got lost and the admin of that box aint replying to my mails :/ so im kinda stuck there ...

currently we (or better cooldown) are converting the 1529 of already coded mzscript lines to lsLua, coz mzscript just doesnt cut it anymore - harhar - yeah u read correct, nonstep will basically look the same as the last version since theres nothing wrong with its looks in my eyes, but under the hood its going to be a friggin moster :]
It already is, but i dont want to leak infos and rather let the whole thing rock as hell, once its done!

If there some c++ coders out there - please report in if u like to mod some modules to match nonsteps needs ... there even is one secifically written for nonstep and it shall not be the last until release o.O

to all of nonsteps fan
please be patient a lil longer
it WILL be worth it

Posted by member 148416 on 2005-09-19 15:11:27 link

Good to hear muhKuh, looking forward to a theme as well-made as nonstep taking advantage of lua. I bet that's the theme that finally gets me to learn how to use it :P

Posted by member 212670 on 2005-09-19 16:41:59 link

Looking forward to it, too. I'm still waiting for a theme that actually shows the speed of lua vs mzscript that I keep hearing about.

Posted by member 48370 on 2005-09-19 17:06:08 link

well, for what i can tell its not the speed of any of those scripts that tear you down, it rather is the reaction of other modules and i bet the internal calls inside the core ... but then again im no expert on this one and can just tell what i noticed while coding this and that. In my eyes - and thats why we switch to lua - the actual speed advantage will be the capability of giving me other modules functionality with internal stuff like timers which i kinda use heavily already and let me tell u - lsTimer just sucks big time when it comes to complex tasks, no clue if its the fault of the module author or some glitches in the core, but its just not reliable.

Thats it for today - nice to see theres still life in here :]

Posted by member 2066 on 2005-09-24 19:51:03 link

wow, i have been really out of the loop for a while... i have been using N|S for like... ever, and i have constantly been wondering what the hell happened to it, and why nobody has made more matching trillian/winamp/WB/etc skins for it... if i knew how to make any of those, i would take the time to do so.. i got my little kick in the pants tonight from getting the google desktop bar thing, and it pisses me off because it overlaps jdeskSetWorkArea settings, and i hate that...

so, yehaw.. im glad to see im not the only one wanting updates and whatnot.

Posted by member 268561 on 2005-09-26 23:18:36 link

Ok, so I must say that this is one of the cleanest and most functional themes I've ever seen for any shell. Big props to the coders!

For some reason I can't seem to change the width of the ampTimeLabel. I'd like to shrink it by 1 pixel on either side, but all I can do is change its x coordinate; any change in width has no effect at all. I'm guessing that there's something painfully obvious that I'm overlooking, but I'm pretty much baffled right now.

Posted by member 48370 on 2005-10-01 06:24:15 link

hmmmm, the old version didnt build the taskbar dinamically so the ampTimeLabelWidth var should be in plain sight - the only thing u might be doing wrong is having the bar on top and fiddling with bottom.rc, that would explain why your changes dont seem to affect the theme, other than that i dont have a clue :o

paste your config file here [http://www.rafb.net/paste/] and post the url here so i can get a look at your file ...

could u send me the wallpaper? [hope its 1600res]

sup with the meter bar background - why is it black instead of transparent? and why aint the vwm selector some transparent png?

Posted by member 166377 on 2005-10-02 11:10:54 link

Meter bar background isn't really black, it just haven't refreshed itself and the background is just from the last wallpaper i had, it changes every 10th minute. And about vwm selector, i didn't really even think about using transparency
there though the black bothered me little bit, thanks.

ps. you can get the wallpaper from http://www.vladstudio.com/wallpaper/?331
the high quality wallpapers costs something, but you can get the low quality ones for free. (you can't really see the difference between hi and low). there's 1600 res version too.
