Did I pick a bad time to get into Litestep? Thread last updated on 2005-10-18 17:41:06

It seems like every resource I visit is outdated, or even gone. The tutorials in this forum's stickies are long gone, and the only other one I can find is a joeblade one from 2001. Did I pick a bad time to get into Litestep? The other documentation I've been using was at litestep wiki, but it didn't seem to be much other than an overview. Any help would be awesome.

the wiki is getting better everyday ;)

This is a great time to get into Litestep! Why?
New development has already begun!

A new core is being completed.
A new installer is being bug tested as we speak.
A new OTS is getting crunched out.

After all this a whole new/better LiteStep will exist!

Hopefully this will bring new interested users into the scene releasing themes and doing interesting things with LS.

I'd say the time has never been better to get into LS.

Welcome to the community(?)

It's always a good time to get in to Litestep!

You can find a fairly useful tutorial here which is based on OTS2 (the current standard). The modules are outdated in it, but it's a good starting point to get an idea of structure. Then, start tearing themes apart to see what makes them tick (just stick to OTS2 ones in the downloads section). Plus, this site and ls-universe.info are fairly active, and there is a bunch of regulars that answer LS questions here and there.

Even if the project was dead, it's still worth while. It's so much more flexible and useful than the window's shell, and there are tons of mature modules out there that you can configure to your needs. But, like fractal has pointed out, there's active developement in the works.

Excellent. An OTS2 tutorial is exactly what I was looking for.

I've actually tried Litestep in the past, a few years back. At that time I just decided it wasn't worth the effort and went back to explorer, but now I'm at the point where I don't mind putting some elbow grease into making windows the OS it never was for me.

Thanks for the help, I'm going to keep poking around and figuring this thing out.
