I cannot instal KDE theme for LiteStep. When I try to intsall theme, I receive message for missing rc file. Why? I havent problems with other themes.

Maybe it isn't OTS2-compatible? It would also help if we knew exactly which KDE theme you're talking about, as there are a few of them.

And which .rc file it thinks is missing, as well.

Why does the front forum page flag it as *new* then!?!?!

Posted by member 212670 on 2006-10-16 23:13:45 link

Happens when a post is deleted, it seems. So, someone probably posted, a mod removed it (due to the thread's age), but it remains flagged. Some kind of delay updating. Maybe locking would be better.

Oops, my fault. But like Boreas said, the thread was flagged as new.

damn blue icons, can never trust them.

Sure they work most of the time,
but they misrepresent just enough to let you know that "gray-new" posts probably exist.

XD

Again I say: LS needs an *actual* and *good* forum software. (vBulletin etc)

Normally things like that happen when someone posts into the thread and then an admin comes by and nukes the post that was in it resurecting it from the dead for no reason. Since the thread was changed you see it as new. Not much we can really do about that.

"Not much we can really do about that."

Maybe have the "nuke" function reset the newness aswell?
But I guess you need the whole thing setup like that (like wiki pages have versions).

Wonder if vBulletin has that? :D

Actually I like ls.net's forum despite its little quirks. It's clean and easy to navigate unlike "typical" forum systems, i.e. it's not a maze of tables and buttons, nor is it riddled with pointless smiley icons.

But how do we determine if it still is new to you? You may have not read that thread the first time so it would have been new. It is just a loose loose situation.

West: Wow, another thing we agree on XP

Yeah it has its pro's, I guess.
But you can have a decent looking, non-confusing and feature-rich forum too.
I think I will just try implement my own forum sometime I guess. No use talking about it really.

DeV: Well, unlike some, I havent read every thread ever written on here, and they arent marked blue, so...

How do you determine if I have read a thread anyway? cookies? so just ... dont change whatever the cookie looks for. or something.

I mean, currently, you change "something" that flags it "new", right?
So why not when you delete stuff, it not change that "something", get me?

Ad for kicks, put a tag at the bottom:
"Invisible Forum Justice commenced here on Day the XX of Month in the year YEAR"

I wish I had the time, skills, patience and access to add little things like that for you.

Oh well, maybe when I retire.
Or maybe when I get a job.
Probably after I retire from my job.

For someone with no time you sure make looooong posts. =P

Posted by member 1 on 2006-10-17 10:59:24 link

"new" flags are based upon your last session date/time and the last updated time for the thread. We could compare it to every post in every thread but that would take forever.

Posted by member 5575 on 2006-10-17 14:47:46 link

We'll just have to deal with the occasional Blue Icon of Rebirth.

"the last updated time for the thread"

Make your "nuke" powers not update the time?

Boreas: Yeah, I do make some long posts eh. Try reading all of the lsdev GS thread!
Like most LS'ers, I'd rather talk than act :P

Posted by member 1 on 2006-10-18 17:11:16 link

the time would have been already updated by the post that was deleted. we have to set the time to something and we can't set it back to some random number.

Posted by member 1949 on 2006-10-18 19:24:19 link

haha I never caught that post date!
Ya that one is really dead!
