Does anyone know if the new version of GeekAmp is out that would be compatible with Winamp3. Or for that matter is there a module that would work with winamp3??

Easiest way to get Geekamp to work with Winamp 3...uninstall and go with winamp2. Its less resource intensive and more stable IMHO.

Dynamp run well with Winamp3... but Winamp is big monster... and doesn't interact friendly with the system. It smell like a lot of "bidouilles" in Winamp3. Of course, Winamp3 looks better than Winamp2, but what does it do more than his brother ? Video ? When it's work !...

As I said, you can use dynamp to control Winamp3 and there's no problem except that Winamp3 is the problem. But you are very limited with Winamp3.

So, listen DeViLbOi and switch back to Winamp2. You'll could do everything you want with geekamp, lsslider... It's easier to integrate Winamp2 perfectly in your theme.
Have fun and read the docs. There's nothing special to make it works. Just read.

Then you have to read a lot;

Dynamp has almost exactly the same commands as Geekamp, so you most likely can just replace it. In case you need more specific instructions:
1. Place dynamp.dll in your modules folder
2. Open step.rc and change:
LoadModule $ModulesDir$geekamp.dll
with:
LoadModule $ModulesDir$dynamp.dll
and that should be all!

Pesonally I use Winamp3. It is a resource hog but it's got one feature I use a lot that Winamp2 doesn't, the crossfade. I jack my machine into a sound system to DJ dances and the crossfade helps keep the vibe going. Regardless, you have to give the kids over at Winamp props for not getting rid of WA2 after 3 came out.

Peace

There's a crossfader plugin for Winamp2

Posted by member 18651 on 2003-03-27 11:56:04 link

Yes, SQRSoft Crossfade Plugin. It's a nice one.

Jet Audio have crossfade and sounds better than Winamp.

yah .. but don't you have to pay for Jet Audio!?

To control Winamp3, I use RM-X but I had to use hotkeys that were not with the Win key cause the Popup was opening each time. So when I'm making a party at home, I'm startig Winamp3 with Classic Visualisation Plugin to run G-Force Visualisation (Which I think is the best Vis possible). But when I'm not partying, I use The Core Media Player to play my music. It's a recently released media player with an interesting skinning system (I use it in my Screenshot). It also handles video files as easely as music. But the best of all, it has a Winamp emulation so it reacts to Geekamp just like Winamp and I can run my beloved G-Force.

AntAgna: use HotkeyNoWinKeyPopup to avoid popup opening on pressing WIN key
Al: I don't know JetAudio. Does modules to control it exist ? Sound really better than Winamp ? You should have very expensive speakers...

Posted by member 94 on 2003-03-28 16:07:49 link

There's a "Basic" version that is freeware, and I've used winamp 2 and 3 and I think that JetAudio is better than this two. There's no module to control JetAudio with LS (at least, I haven't seen a module for this anywhere). I kept the controls for winamp in my themes, cause seens that a lot people use it, but for me I use JetAudio and I don't have a very expensive speaker set, actually they're a lot simple in my opinion. Well, I think it's better if you give it a try. Find it here: http://www.cowon.com. Read this: http://download.com.com/1200-2023-993145.html?tag=sptlt

Humm, Al, I'll give it a try one day. Not today because I'm just coming back from a week away from my computer, and I'm under a non-priviledged account...
Last question: does JetAudio deal video files better than Winamp3 (I must admit that Winamp3 is poor about that)

Posted by member 94 on 2003-03-28 22:51:50 link

Yeah. IMO it's even better then Radlight, which it's the one I've used to play DivX movies until I start using JetAudio. It plays Real Media without the needing of having it installed in your machine, and of course, avi, mpeg, mov (requires QuickTime to play).
Anyway, it's just my opinion, but I think it's worth a try.

I hate Real Media files. In fact, I hate Real policy. So, I never, and will never install Real Players. But sometimes, it could be a good thing to be able to play Real files... Then... one more point for JetAudio...

I find winamp3 a resource hog like everyone else, but also, it's not nearly as powerful as winamp2. WA2.9 with the new media manager and movie playing thing does everything 3 does and more (other than dynamic skinning). If you just look at the WA3 options page, it's got half the options WA2 has. And where's the jump feature in WA3? That was like the coolest thing in WA. The find in WA3 just doesn't cut it. But WA3 has a completely new codebase and is still currently in its relative infancy. The really configurable, scriptable design is really cool and I'm sure it'll develop into a really great player. But until it "matures" a little, I'm sticking with WA2.

As for crossfading, I rate the native XF WA2 .dll does it better. The XF in WA3 stutters when fading between different audio formats like wma/mp3/ogg or whatever (at least on my rig. Dunno if they fixed that yet).

And Real is more of a commercial b*tch than even MS. Look at all the adware, spyware and hog that it wants to load up on system boot. I never touch the thing. If there's something only available in .rm or .ra, I grab the latest converter and dump it into divx before watching it in mplayer2

2eXp:
1) It is a real trouble with ANSI-charset limitation for all software. The best solution is to use Unicode - and the main advantage of WA3 is support of it.
But I don't like third WinAMP and still using WA2 %)
2) there is a wonderfull WinAmp-plugin for rm/ra files :)

1) Yeah, I had that prob with WA2 as well... all my nice Chinese artists' names had to be converted to phonetics or else they just showed up as "??". But it seems Nullsoft is still devving for the WA2 line? Maybe they can give us unicode support in 2.92 or something :)

2) Really! Shweet! :) Say goodbye to the choppy video days of Tinra :) I can't seem to find it on the WA2 site tho, can u gimme a link? thx

i think there are a few unicode out by now.

There is a continuation of this plugin, but it is not free :(

Hey thx! :)

It still seems to need Realplayer to be installed tho, which is something I was hoping I didn't need to do. Real... yuck! :) But then again, so did things like tinra now that I think of it. Is it some legal/liscencing issue that they can't have a decoder themselves?

Just thought I should point out that despite nullsoft saying that 2.81 would be the last 2.x version of winamp, they are still working on the 2.x branch. There's a 2.91 release of winamp that has many of the new features in Winamp 3 (including media library and I believe crossfading) but still uses the 2.x API and most of the 2.x code. It's compatible with geekamp and uses WAAAAAY less memory than Winamp 3. I've been very happy with it overall.
