I may be the only one that thinks this, but I think it would be helpful to have a listing of the themes you submitted in your profile. that way, you can easier check for any comments by just going into your profile, and going into the theme, instead of going into the themes section, and if the theme is too old, then you need to browse through the list until you find it. it's just kind of a pain how it is right now.
Ill differ to tux on this one...
Actually you're not the only one. I've been thinking about adding that.. something like... "all themes by this user" and /or "all screenshots by this user".
I was actually going to add that to all the other sections as well (at least most of 'em), whereby when you're looking at a theme/screenshots/downloads...whatever.. you have the option to view all the submissions by that particular author/user.
This would enable the user/author to have more control over his/her submissions, edit/update .. whatever.
I have couple of other ideas as well, my only enemy right now is time.
cool. I'll just wait patiently until it's implemented then. thanks tux. ;)
@tuxpow3r - indeed, time is our worst enemy (to all of us), how I understand you...:(
The idea of "all author themes in his profile" is exelent, I thought of it too.
There is an other feature that is missing in the themes section: "the updating feature".
As it is now, when you make un update you have to resubmit it. This makes the site data base grow uselessly (bigger data base means, more to pay for extra plce on the server), it also makes the searching for a specific theme more dificult and finally it may confuse peapol to have many diferent versions of a seime theme.
I was wonderind if it is possible to retreve (on request) all my themes from the data base of the site.
The reason for this, is that I am updating all my themes, and I would not want to have diferent versions on the site.
Neither do I want to full the site data base with all my crap. :)
So when I have the final versions of my themes, will it be possible to retreve the old ones, so I re-upload the new ones?
Best regards...
The Update button is actually intentionally not there. The direction that the Themes section was to take was something similar to how Modules was setup. So that you had one entry for each theme with many versions. This would allow users to go back and forward in a themes history to avoid problems etc. When the section gets rewritten here shortly this should be implemented and you will understand. As for finding all of your themes...Go into the themes section and browse by author. Its the best we can do right now.
As I said, it may be confusing, to have many diferent versions of a same theme. But it can be usefull too, to see how autors evolve, and how their themes evolve...yes, it may be interesting.
And if the last version of the theme is well "marked" (ie. a bid fluorecent and shining logo "last version"...lol...), the confusing may be reduced.
But there is still one more PB, the theme names. You see, I name most of my themes "themename" (without version number), so if i try to upload an updated version, I can not do it without giving it either a diferent name, either a versoin number.
But for me one theme as the "WiseDragon" theme, is in only one version, when I update it, it is allways the same theme, but just updated...
In fact, I don't realy like version numbers and their usage...
So how you'll menage the themes who are not named properly (themename version), will you give them by default "1.0", or else?
Anyway, all my compliments for the site...
and greetings...
Hrm, if it's supposed to be similar to module releases... what about the loose-screws route of having both an update button and a "past versions" link (like
this)?
Themers are supposed to have the ability to update themes for 3 days. After that the theme is considered "locked" and is not permitted to be updated. If an update comes out after that third day it is to be considered another version of the theme. I don't want users to have the ability to remove items from our repository, similar to what AznRomeo/Gen'Aku did when he got pissed off and left the community. That work was still submitted to LSnet and under the AUP can be archived.
Right, I was just thinking of hiding the old versions from the theme list when you browse it. One entry per theme, not per theme version. You'd click on the theme's name (ie. open the theme's page) and have the option to obtain "past versions".
Then again, I seldom use the theme list. I'm probably not the best to tell if that'd be useful or not.
right...that is what I said...isn't it?
I guess so. But since it's not the current implementation I didn't know whether you meant to keep things as is or not.
ilmcuts: yes, the versioning system is going to be available in the re-write, so hang tight.
The idea of "all author themes in his profile" is exelent, I thought of it too.
Me too. I posted the first couple comments in my profile so I could create links and comments to each of my themes.
I've always wondered why i couldn't view all the themes by someone - especially since i can view all their screenshots. :)
I just Bookmark my themes
but it would be nice to have a page to showcase authors
I love the way Deviantart is setup with a master page
for each author
*sighs* ok, I don't know how else I can say this for people to understand!
The re-write would feature an "all themes by author" page!
The re-write would feature an "all themes by author" page!
get it, got it, good!
