I found out that it's ocassionally possible to do that without any neat tricks. I don't know what is causing it but what I have to do is to click the popup titlebar and push esc, sometimes merelyfocusing and unfocusing it does not work.

And this served very little purpose, if someone has a solution, share it with us.
