it'd be easier to make sure you include the edge files before you load jdesk and just have evars for each edge.
in the left edge include file:
LeftArea 25
in the step.rc:
if LeftArea
else
LeftArea 0
endif
jDeskWorkArea $LeftArea$,$TopArea$,$RightArea$,$BottomArea$
in the left edge include file:
LeftArea 25
in the step.rc:
if LeftArea
