Well, switch back to simplicity, or find the thin theme on one of the skins pages. They are very sleek and minimalistic.

And if a theme is made well it doesn't use lots of resources. So, try one of those for a few minutes, and make sure things that you don't need aren't being loaded by windows when you start up.
