Less System Resources? Thread last updated on 2003-05-13 12:14:26

I read somewhere that Litestep uses up less system resources but after loading up the Sputnik skin, my memory usage shot up to 386 megs out of 512. While playing shooter games, my normal 100 fps shot down to 17. Anyone know why?
I'm running a
P4 1.7 gigz
512 ddr ram
Geforce 4 MX 64 meg RAM
40 Gig HD

Also, for the sputnik theme, and only that one, my computer will randomly log off...any ideas?
It's an AWSOME theme and i'd do anything to keep it

Well, switch back to simplicity, or find the thin theme on one of the skins pages. They are very sleek and minimalistic.

And if a theme is made well it doesn't use lots of resources. So, try one of those for a few minutes, and make sure things that you don't need aren't being loaded by windows when you start up.

It seems to be related to DirectX parameters. LS cant do that, that much.

"my computer will randomly log off"

Not randomly. More likely it happens everytime your mouse touches the upper right hand corner. This theme uses hotspots in the corners of the screen.

It's advisable to read the readme file for any theme to learn what features there are.

So its a feature not a bug? Why would anyone want that?

To be able to log off without going through their popup? Anyways, you can disable it pretty easy. Just go into the step, find the line that controls that hotspot, and either comment it out, or delete it. I would recommend commenting it out first, then trying it, to make sure you remove the right line.
