xTray 1.x uses its own set of config code. xTray 2.x uses that, and even then that's a little different.

My advice for that: get and install xPaintclass-1.0 (stick the DLL in the same folder as Litestep.exe), and start using xTray-2.0. Get the newest theme here, devART-min, which uses xTray-2.0, and start playing with it from there.

VTray was less buggy than those that preceeded it, and likewise, xTray is less buggy than them. Also, with current versions of xModules (and lsxcommand), you can use basically the same config code for them all in terms of appearance. So going from xTray-2.0 to xTaskbar-2.0 to xLabel-4.0 are small steps, with basically no change in how the look is set up.
