You're not going to have any luck with the VLC I don't think (not using litestep anyways, unless I'm missing something)... foobar on the other hand is definitely doable. You can use... aw crap I haven't used an *amp controller in a theme for so long I don't know which module is best. Either dynamp or geekamp, check those out. They will provide bangs that you can assign to hotkeys, and if you look in your litestep directory you'll find buried in there a file called "vk104.txt" to which you will need to add some entries for your super-keys. The format of the file is pretty straightforward and you'll see what it's all about when you open it up... oh and my fingers are getting sore from typing but this is where mine is:
C:\Apps\LiteStep\profiles\John\personal\jkey\vk104.txt
So, yah... connect the dots.
Also, to find out what code you need for your super-keys there's an app called "AnyKey" (wait, is that what that app's called?). I think it's on ShellFront (wait, is that what that site's called?)
Sorry for being verbose and dumb, hope it helps :)
Oh and if I misinterpreted what a "media bar" is... then... ignore what I just said.
