i also had problems with rainman.dll or ini or sth like that when i tried to install sputnikr. that's an os problem. win98 has some issues with that module, dunno (don't remember) exactly why :-/
my advice to you is to get a new pc! ;) i just bought a new pc (P4 2,4GHz; 256MB RAM; GeForce4 64MB; WinXP Home Edition; ect.) and it's such a relief :) i recommend you to do the same, if possible.
