Hi All.
I'm gonna try Litestep. Fed up with windows and Linux is annoying :)
I used Litestep about 2, maybe 3 years ago and it was still in it's infancy with not much support, so before I go and get this thing, is there anything I need to know or do or any FAQ's that I should read. Bacically, I'm looking for some pointers so I'm not in the deep end all by myself.

TIA,

StormX

I'd suggest starting at litestep.com and litestep.nfo. Just reading around. Also, before you actually install it, it's a good idea to read any readme's that come w/. I actually was reading a really good site earlier but alas, that was at work and so I can't get it right now.

However, I just installed it and then read up later when I needed to know stuff or was bored. That works too, but it usually contains a slight bit more time/hairpulling.

Yes, Linux is annoying. My hard drives are all NTFS. Red Hat 8 does not support NTFS, I have to download other modules. To do this need to install my modem drivers which are on one of my NTFS partitions which I can't read in Red Hat 8 because I need to install NTFS capability which I can't do until I install my modem drivers.............. :)

I've downloaded it now, here at school, but I'll have to test it out home later. By the way, does it include the SDK, with full source so I can check it out, or do I have to download that seperatly?

I think I'm having some trouble getting up to speed with LiteStep,
once installed it stated it couldn't load LiteStep.exe, and I was told to reinstall Windoze.
I knew that that wasn't neccesary, but then it also told me it couldn't find some dll [msvc??60.dll or something like that].
It didn't take me very long to figure out this was a MS Visual C file, so I ripped msvc??50.dll from my msvc CD and renamed the file to
msvc??60.dll. That seemed to solve the problem, and LiteStep loaded normaly.

But... it then started to complain about being unable to find rain???.dll, but when I checked the directory indicated by the nice messagebox, it was there!?

Not willing to give up just like that I simply launced the LSCP and changed my theme [standard simplicity, comes in the kit] with a new one
[SPUTNIKR.Zip]. That's when the troubles really began.

LiteStep became totally unstable, Crashing when trying to !Recycle,
complaining it couldn't load Wharf [Module 0], the rclick popup and the lsxcommand both became unpredictable, 'unloading' [disapearing] before I had the chance to do anything, but after rclicking for a while that seemed to cease.

In short:
- Why isn't msvc??60.dll included in the package?
- Whould the problems be solved if I switched from Win98SE to WinXp/Nt
[ I have a P1 133Mhz, 32Mb RAM, so that won't really be an option I
guess... |( ]
- Are any of these problems possibly Theme related?

--- PLEASE I NEED YOUR HELP! ---

You really should start a new discussion for that Da Fox :). I think you should get the default skin (simplicity) to work before trying new skins.. new skins pose a heckuva lot more problems so it's nice to have some experience under your belt. All computers seem to need some tweaking to get all the bugs out of any theme. Most likely, most to all of the problems you're having aren't theme related persay.. but more like a theme/OS/computer issue. They're just an incompatability and need to be worked through one by one.

I've never heard of the msvp issue or even the rain issue before but I'm kinda new myself.

Yeah, I think you're right, but the problem may heve been solved,
Me and my friend were sufing yesterday, looking for cool skins, and
we may have found some that looks WhoW, and solves all my problems, he had similar problems at first, but now with this new skin it seems to be solved. (So it may have been one of the dll's of the skin after all)
I'm going to try it out in an Hour or 2/3, I think.
The msvcp50/60 dll I'm going to find on Google now, so that won't pose
a problem any more either.

the msvcp60.dll can be downloaded from shellfront.org

i also had problems with rainman.dll or ini or sth like that when i tried to install sputnikr. that's an os problem. win98 has some issues with that module, dunno (don't remember) exactly why :-/

my advice to you is to get a new pc! ;) i just bought a new pc (P4 2,4GHz; 256MB RAM; GeForce4 64MB; WinXP Home Edition; ect.) and it's such a relief :) i recommend you to do the same, if possible.
