First: did you restart after you installed LS? I've never had trouble, but some people do, if they don't restart. If that's not it...

Export the HKLM and HKCU software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run keys.
Remove everything from them after you export them.

Try again. It sounds like the kind of problem malware would introduce, but if nothing is in startup to do it, or the run keys, that would mean it's not that.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to scan w/ AdAware, Spybot, CWS, and maybe even Hijack This (be careful--HJT will find stuff, but a lot of it will be legit software!). It could also be pre-installed OEM software, or other manufacturer's software, that starts after logon, and really likes Explorer.
