hi! i am new here and have tried installing LS before and everything worked out fine EXCEPT! i didn\'t know what to do from there. i spent 30 minutes trying to figure out where my shutdown menu was and 3o more minutes trying to uninstall it cuz i didn\'t know how to customize it.

i want to have this installed since it looks cool, but i am afraid of it going bad like i have read on some other people. i constantly play games on the computer and only have dial-up internet. slow 56k.
winxp pro
2.4 ghz
512 mb ram

will it go okay u think? i want to do my own thing with the themes, but i have NO IDEA where to start with the customizing. i dont even know how to install other people\'s themes.

LS is great...you just need to be willing to put in the wrench time to learn. There is no roadmap to LS wisdowm though. Pick a theme...find something you want to tweak...break it and go from there. :) If you get stuck there are support irc channels and themers willing to spend time in IM clients to help. Before you start readup on the docs and tutorials and you should be ok, for the more part LS is intuitive.

ok. i am gonna go home and try installing it again and TRY and figure out how this thing works so i can customize it to my own needs. seems as though the themes on here gets close to what i want, but is not what i want. reading the faqs and previous threads have helped me in the past with other things so i guess it will work here too?

and whats the difference between lsd and ost? open theme standard and ???

Posted by member 1 on 2003-04-07 18:26:23 link

they were two different themeing standards. OTS is the only one that is really used anymore

If you want to build your own theme, I think it's a good idea to start with only an Indiestep build.
Just put all stuff in a folder (eg. Litestep) and download the docs from shellfront.
Read the doc before trying to use your Indiebuild...
Then, start little. An ugly taskbar, an awfull popup, and the systray...
Take your time to discover where you want to go with Litestep. After the incubation period, you will discover that you can CONTROL almost everything on your computer...
Welcome to the LS world...

Check the "Where do I download LiteStep" sticky thread as to where to find the OTS installer.

Also check out the tutorial sticky thread, there's a link to a tutorial for the total noob, including a very basic theme that is easy to tweak. Should be a good learning experience.

And don't be afraid to ask questions... as long as you've done the reading first, that is ;)

thanx guys. i have downloaded the docs and skimmed through it to see how to make this work. i will read through it thoroughly while in class today.

once again, thank you guys for all ur help.

i have gone to http://www.pixelhated.org/ for a tutorial but the links he gives for downloading are not working? just to say that maybe http://www.pixelhated.org/ is outdated a little bit.

not outdated...just a downed server. :(

yay! everything works! kinda. i still dont know how to make my own things and stuff. it almost crashed when i installed the theme .tenebrae._4.5-Maestr0-44

and

Thin-teschio-57

but other themes worked AWESOMELY! but does using certain themes use more or less computer power? cuz i am looking for the most out of gaming.

It depends on the module configuration. Eyecandy modules usually use more ressources than pure utility modules like geekamp. ;)
