I was wondering what theme authors thought about having their work uploaded to a certified theme repository.

Would you take it as copywrite infringement or a compliment of your work for the community?

What do regular users of ls think about having a common certified themes repository?
All themes are tested to support OTS2 and run without bugs if the users are running a current setup of LS.

All you users that just lurk on this site now is the time to post a comment to push ls in a good direction.

Participating sites should have a checkbox when submitting:

[ ] Check here if you wish for your theme to remain only on this site, otherwise, it may be included in the Litestep repository.

If not, a clear "Terms of Agreement" should be displayed when uploading a theme.

As someone who is still active in the Litestep community, if my theme were to be relocated, or modified, without my permission, I'd be pissed off.

If I was inactive for a long period of time, I'd expect an attempt to be made to contact me before modifying, or moving, my theme. Failing a genuine attempt at contacting me, I'd be understanding of whatever may be done with my theme, as I personally would then consider it to be abandoned. Others may not feel that way. Keep in mind, copyright laws do not recognize something as being abandoned for up to - if I remember correctly - 70 to 120 years, depending on conditions.

edit - For the record, I'd never expect someone to actually sue over a Litestep theme. What damages could you really expect to be compensated for.

While I agree that it wouldn't be a bad idea to have one upload to a bunch of different sites, I agree with one of the posts TH4CK made. All of our sites are different. How are you going to track usernames at all the different sites? To get around this we would have to share user databases and then profile databases. Then we are down to basically one site with 3 different views. I don't see how it will work in the long run.

Come on... 26 views, 2 opinions. Immortal deserves more than that. :P

Well, I allready expressed my views at ls-u and after reading that entire thread it seems like Immortal and Andymon have a good idea.

They just simply want to update old themes that are dead to OTS2.
I think thats quite a good idea, but I don't think I will participate in the updating. It seems too... retro-active?
It would be a good learning experience for any themer though, so I may partake.

And if I did update an older theme I would no-doubt upload it here, so the whole "central repository" thing I think is a different issue.

It would be cool if there was 1 site to upload your theme and all the sites that wanted it could grab it, but I think that is the reason why there isn't one.

Distribution control is needed with anything anyone produces. We like to know where our stuff is.
