Hotkey Failed to load Thread last updated on 2006-09-18 16:16:22

When loading litestep, hotkey failed for everything (!Recycling Bin etc) pops up. Then I have to open explorer by CTRL+ALT+DEL. The graphic for the theme appears, but that's it. It's not functional. I had litestep installed a long time ago with no problems.

Tried it with just the install, then copied the newest Binary over the install of litestep, then copied the RC4 one. All produce the same result.

Help?

Update.

From a fresh install with the latest build it boots right into litestep, no errors. But I can't click on anything on the desktop and the taskbar is not functional. Once again I operate through explorer.exe.

So now what's the problem?

What theme are you using? Do you have the default step.rc/personal.rc/hotkey.rc from the LS installer, or are they your customized ones? Sounds like something is broken in there somewhere.

Hey,

Yeah they are all the default ones that come with the installer. That's what's boggling my mind.

Is there some windows service that this program relies on? I tend to crack down on windows services that I don't need, so they have been messed with.

Are all the modules downloading and installing properly in the modules folder? NetLoadModule has problems with proxy servers, which can mess things up when installing new themes. If you're using the default everything should already be included though.

Is there any sort of hotkey or mouse software installed that might be interfering with mouseclicks or hotkey registration?

I am using a laptop, so there is a touch pad. It did come with touchpad software, it looked like it was just monitoring software, putting an icon in the task bar and whatnot, so I installed it.

I am messing again with it now, any ideas welcome.

Wow, I am not smrat.

"It did come with touchpad software, it looked like it was just monitoring software, putting an icon in the task bar and whatnot, so I UNinstalled it."

Just want to be clear that I am not using any (0) themes. Just a fresh install with omar's installer. With and without the updated binary.

The hotkey errors are gone. To reiterate the problem. Windows loads into Litestep, the new taskbar in place. Mouse doesn't move. So I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL and then the background just get's erased by anything I put over it. Basically looks like my desktop is a screenshot of a working Litestep =/.

Hey look an edit button. Sorry about all the double posting.

1) The install comes with a theme by default.
2) If you uninstalled the driver of course your mouse doesn't work.
3) Game over...you looose.

Er, not quite.

I was trying to clarify that I was not using a different theme then the default one, or trying to get a theme to work. I am trying to get the shell to work in general.

I didn't uninstall the driver, it obviously works fine if I am able to use it and all it's functionality in windows(XP). Like I said, that was just monitoring software.

My mouse works fine in the Explorer shell.

All that being said I can load a new theme, and it shows up, but I still can't click on anything.

Are you really using an external mouse, or do you just mean the cursor - controlled by the touchpad? If it's the latter, it seems likely that something your touchpad needs to work properly is not being run at startup when you use LS.

...or is supported for some strange reason by the explorer shell. In any rate, install the driver again and make sure when LS starts it is run.

Ok I'll give it a shot.

I have several usb mice that I plug and play in explorer but don't work in litestep either. I have installed their drivers as well to no avail.

I think it has more then that to it though. I cannot use the keyboard to cycle through my icons on the desktop. I've tried an external keyboard as well. I have no input control whatsoever besides C+A+D. This is making me pull my hair out.

What kind of laptop is it? If you could find someone using similar hardware perhaps you could compare the list of running processes and see what's "missing" on yours?

strat6: of course you can't cycle through your icons with your keyboard, LS doesn't do that. You could try the windows key to get the popup to open, but odds are that you have that disabled too.
