Download link to program Thread last updated on 2003-05-09 17:35:08

I think this is properly the worst site I've been. Not in design, but when you make a site for a program, I suggest you put a link, on a BIG spot, so when somebody can see where they can download litestep. Isn't that the primary function?
tell me if i am wrong, or just caught this site while 'updating'

The site is still being worked on. When the Dev section is complete you will find copies of different distributuions on this site locally. However, if you would have taken the time to look through the news page you would have found multiple links to places to download LiteStep. Also there are tons of forums posts on where to download LiteStep. Now maybe you should have looked around a little before making yourself look like a moron.

I guess we gotta change the whole site cause of some idiot who couldn't find a link despite the fact that they are all over the place.

Ya, so you went through the trouble of getting a user accout by but you can click a few things to get a link??? Besides, it seems that the webmasters only want registered uers to access anthing, so why would it be on the first thing to see. Plus you probaly will only download this once. Anyway big easy buttons are for non-elietest shmuks... that's why your here right..? Contentment is for weenies...

Somebody have a link or not?

Posted by member 1 on 2003-05-08 10:21:51 link

I have lots of links.

Posted by member 29799 on 2003-05-08 18:31:51 link

hehe. funny & true that there's links buried everywhere on this site for people who want to scour it for them (I found it!). However, if he had read that article that was posted in the news, I can see why he was confused since it clearly states in that article that coming to Litestep.net will let you click a download link to get started. Currently no such link exists. Thus the site is currently failing to offer pure efficiency of goal-attainment in that respect (and aren't we all about making things more efficient?). And yes it's in the news but given the new news pushing back the old news, you'd have to go to page 2 of the news to start finding linx to installers and files.

It's also true that from a user interface point of view that almost every site dedicated to a specific technology/software has a big download button somewhere on the main page. When I get into a car I rarely want to have to remove the dashboard to find the ignition, even if I am planning on taking the car apart later after I've driven it around for a while.

I realize this isn't a popular opinion here, but at the very least I think it shouldn't be too hard to link to a simple html doc for the Dev section until your top secret plans for it in PhP or whatever are complete. For one thing it would stop people from nagging all of us about where they download the files and/or installer.

/me ducks the onslaught of ereet punks who believe that the hard way is the only way

Posted by member 1 on 2003-05-08 20:22:27 link

I believe that the links are right there in the open for everyone to use. If you click on the news article you will find a link to the forums section where every place to download LS is linked to, and if it isn't you should be submitting more. Also we do have a links section that almost nobody has submitted links to. So don't complain what you aren't helping to fix.

This site is not all about LS as everyone seems to believe. This site is all about LiteStep Theme design and ideas. If you want LS you should be looking to the development team to get a website going in the free space we have provided for them. You should also be looking to other sites within the community that offer access to these files, Phil from Leaf R & D being one of them.

There is no Simple HTML doc to be written to cover all of the docs for LS. There is a public site already with all of the Core Documentation for .24.6 which is found in the links section. If you then want further documentation for your specific Indie Build you should look at the docs that come with your build.

Now...there is no need to duck the onslaught of the ereet punks...just the ban for opening your mouth too wide within the first week of being to a site. Now maybe you will eventually learn from your mistakes and get let back in...or maybe not.

Sorry (really?) but with such an attitude you don't belong on this site. Ever even considered checking the sticky posts in the "general" forum? The post that says "Where do I download LiteStep"? There are multiple links to the LS Installer and the most recent builds.

Interesting thread. I always thought to run a successful site, or even a business, you should encourage feedback. How else will you know how to improve your service and remain competitive? There seems to be a different policy here. Your members are asking for an easy to find link you're calling them names.

I guess we gotta change the whole site cause of some idiot who couldn't find a link despite the fact that they are all over the place.

I fail to see how adding a link will mean changing the whole site.

Plus you probaly will only download this once

I only downloaded WinAmp once but I don’t remember searching through forums to find the link.

notice how he posts and never comes back?

Why would he come back? He’s already been called a moron, idiot and laughed at for giving feedback. Not exactly a warm welcome.

just the ban for opening your mouth too wide within the first week of being to a site

Very professional.

Is my opinion going to get me banned? :)

DrWorm - I currently have 1 fulltime programmer for the site. He is busy with other things and does not have the time to hop at everyones every friggin request. Do I believe that the site is the way I want it and the binary is readily available, yes. If you don't like how the site is there are many others you can use. If you don't like any of the sites available, make your own.

Posted by member 2112 on 2003-05-09 17:22:49 link

Not having the time or resources is a fair response to why you can't implement someones suggestion. Calling them a moron... well...

My point is that there are a lot of things I don't like about this site. It’s still functional and serves its purpose, though. You have provided a forum where I could make suggestions but after reading the responses to others I know it wouldn’t be welcomed.

Posted by member 1 on 2003-05-09 17:35:08 link

Depends on the request as to how it is welcomed. If it is the 3000th time I have said no to a download link or a perm. cookie you won't like my reply. If you ask for something like a searchable themes section you will be asked to wait. If you want something that is reasonable it can be added to the mile long list.
