Hey guys, well I've looked at a bunch of documentation trying to find an answer by myself but I've hit a dead end in this screenshot =>
http://www.litestep.net/upload/themes/UniverseMetaLS_1340-506.png
on the left side there are CPU, SWP, and MEM forms built into the bar, can anyone help me get those installed? Any help is much appreciated. Btw I'm not a complete newb to LiteStep, I can navigate the .rc's easily enough, I just need some help with this, Thanx :)
When the theme loaded up everything should have been installed and configured properly. What is the problem you are having?
Well everything except those 3 forms came up, all I get is the Time:Date one, the other 3 aren't showing up
Did you get any error messages when you started the theme?
Actually now that I think of it I did, I got a Failed to run app as rundll32.exe (or something along those lines)
Now I have run LiteStep before and I thought I had figured out that problem, I'm running on an IBM laptop and I thought it was the IBM Battery gauge that kept crashing so I disabled that, but now I'm thinking it might be something else.
Ok, I was going through my Theme.rc file and lookin for anything that looked odd, and I noticed that there is nothing for the CPU, SWP, or MEM labels.....I found the TIMEDATE one, and everything works for that, but right after that it immediatly goes into the System info labels. Hope this gives you guys alittle more info on the problem.
Your CPU, Swap and Memory information is often called System Information.
Yea I know that, but I believe those labels are for the one button at the very top left of the bar, the one that opens that little box and shows everything, I don't think its for the 3 labels that are missing from my bar....
Well first off those aren't labels. Labels are for text information only and you have graphs. Odds are it is your rainmeter config that is borked.
Guess I could have said that earlier but I was busy werkin.
So... you ought to look for things associated with rainmeter - like the .ini file. You should also check to see if the rainmeter module is being loaded (e.g., has a netloadmodule line in your theme.rc or other config file), and if it is being loaded, is it actually running (use the !about bang to look at list of all loaded modules). If it's running, then perhaps the settings are just messed up. If it's not, then there are other problems to deal with first.
On another note, it *is* possible to make a simple bar graph with xlabel only. You can even do it without using any scripting modules. It's far more likely that rainmeter was used in that theme you have, however.
Im thinking that some part of the path has a space in it and the rainmeter config file location doesn't have quotes around it or something.
Hrmmm...still haven't messed with xLabel too much so I will take your word for it.
That could very well be the case. Unquoted paths with spaces in them are the root of all evil, or something like that. =P
As far as xlabel "graphs" go, you can define a label such as CPUbar and then use timer.dll like so to resize it:
*Timer CPUUpdate #sl Meters 500 !execute [!parseEvars !setEvar CPUbarH %[remove(cpu,'%')]% ][!parseEvars !setEvar CPUbarH %#CPUbarH*mtrBarGroupHeight/100%# ][!parseEvars !labelReposition CPUbar $meterCPUWidth+mtrBarGroupX$ %#mtrBarGroupY-CPUbarH%# $mtrBarGroupWidth$ %#CPUbarH%#]
All done on one (fairly long and hairy) line. Of course, then I've got it hooked in side a label that gives the "title" and text value, and has an overlay to
create a nice border around the bar. No images and no scripting though!
When I used the !About command, this is what came up under loaded modules;
jkey-0.37.dll
jdesk-0.70.dll
lswchanger-1.1.dll
bpopup2-2.1.6.dll
popup2-2.1.6.dll
label-1.99.dll
layercut-1.72.dll
lsslider-1.71.dll
lsxcommand-1.8.5.dll
xprop-1.27.dll
lsbox-3.0-pre.dll
tasks-0.92-b3.dll
dynamp-0.50.dll
textedit-2.52.dll
psywavbang-1.0.dll
scrsaver-1.2.dll
mzscript-0.9-beta_12.dll
NetLoadModule2.dll
I looked in my Theme.rc file and found these 2 lines;
*NetInstallModule rainmeter-0.7 load rainmeter.dll
RainmeterIniFile "$ConfigDir$rainmeter.ini"
Also, I found my Rainmeter.ini file in the config folder, it looks like everything is correct something tells me its not loading though
Ok I was just fiddling around with the Theme.rc file....I got the rainmeter to load now (i added a netmoduleload line, one problem now, it loads.....but its not in the bar, its at the very top left of my screen, below the bar, I would get you a screenshot, but I'm not sure how to up load one, I actually have to retract the one bar to see it, but the module works now, just the wrong place, any ideas of how to get it into the bar?
The rainmeter config files should tell it the proper location. If they don't then you'll need to edit them to make them "fit" their locations. I don't know why they wouldn't already be set properly though, unless the themer just messed up somehow.
Perhaps yea, actually I started messing around with the file, one problem though, I can't get it to integrate itself into the bar so every thing shows, because if I just manually move it, it covers up where the taskbar is, covering my open applications, yet in the screenshot, it has everything set correclty without overlap.
Just one other thing, could the fact that I'm running at 1024 res have anything to do with it?
Well, I was just looking around the Theme.rc file....I found the problem, its seem that if the resolution is less then 1280, it goes to a different configuration, thus cutting out the rainmeter, heres the lines;
If ResolutionX < 1280
*LsBoxCreate "$configdir$dock-small-endcap.box"
Else
*LsBoxCreate "$configdir$dock-endcap.box"
EndIf
*LsBoxCreate "$configdir$dock.box"
So by me manually editing the file, I was overriding this filter, unfortanatly I'm running on a laptop that can only go 1024, so I guess I'm kinda stuck. Thanx anyways for your help guys
it should still load it as 1024 < 1280.
It loads, but I have a feeling the $configdir$dock-small-endcap.box shrinks everything and the creator thought that keeping the rainmeter stuff at that small resolution would make it too cluttered. I was fiddlign around with postions (pixels) and I did kind of get it to work, but it was really tight, and it limited visiual appeal.
If that were the case you wouldn't have the labels for it to be there.
Off Topic (I don't see a PM function on here): Devilboi, did you see the theme I uploaded? Figured it's kinda odd not seeing it after half a day compared to the usual couple of hours.
You should have gotten an email on it. The theme was rejected for not having a valid description.
Hmm, hotmail account? My inbox is empty, so is my junk mailbox. What's the link to the guidelines for descriptions?
There aren't any guidelines. Just needs to describe the theme. Here is a
link to a theme with a "good description." Putting two words into a required field just doesn't cut it.
Really? So all those people who put in "First theme" shouldn't have cut it? haha. Alright, I'll try to be more descriptive. But I'd honestly rather have a guideline, just a suggestion.
Ok...your guideline is that the description field must describe the theme. Happy now?
