Is there a way to delay popup? Thread last updated on 2006-05-30 11:14:03

I dont mean the delay when you put a mouse over and the menu appears but if its possible to add a delay between mouse off and a popup's disappearance. I ask this because I like dragging diagonally and the popup disappears the instant the mouse runs off.

Thanks

Don't remember anything like that.

Hmm the popup should stay open at the last opened folder until it loses focus, no matter where the mouse is. Works for me with xpopup and popup2. I wonder if you're using a theme with an old version of one of those modules that might vanish on mouse leaving instead?

This is an old criticism of the popup.
It appears to be in xpopup as well.
You could enable that option where you must click to open a folder, but that is counterproductive IMO.

I'm not sure if you mean that you must travel horizontally and vertically to get to your destination. This is true, and the easiest solution (get used to doing this).

There is no cutting corners by going in a single straight line (shortest path from A to B is a straight line) from the parent folder entry to the desired entry in the child popup; in doing so, there's the possibility of hovering over a different entry of the parent popup, which would of course switch siblings.

The special case of your passing over the void to get to your destination should work, however, unless you have sloppy-focus/xmouse enabled, I think.

However, I would like to think that there is some feature (at least for xpopup, which is more recently developed) to give a delay which is reset upon hovering over a folder entry, and this could very well exist.

Maybe use this feature of xPopup:
xPopupFolderOpenDelay INT
FolderOpen Delay, specifies how long must the mouse be over the Folderentry till the SubFolder is opened.
Default is 1(ms)

This affects also the Hiding of SubFolders.

Thanks for the suggestion, I just got XPopUp 1.2 and so far Im on the standard install of litestep so I dont think I have sloppy-focus/xmouse enabled unless it installs that way.

Im new to litestep so Im not too familiar with it yet but I currently have "popup2-2.1.4.dll" in the ModulesDir; just so Im clear, is "XPopUp 1.2" a replacement for that dll or does it work in conjunction with it?

Thanks

You need to configure a whole new Popup Module (Read the docs at http://www.xdocs.ls-universe.info/pie.php?xPopup), the only thing which is compatible are the *popup lines in your popup.rc.
