theme for file manager Thread last updated on 2005-11-19 13:26:34

At first I looked at replacing windows explorer, but I'm not looking for added functionality at all. I'm just looking for skins I guess. I can't see anyway to change the way it looks, but I've seen other people do this. Is there other software I need, like will windowsblinds do this? And in that case, does it work with litestep, or would I need to switch from LS to WB? I think the theme I'm using right now has a WB theme too, so it wouldn't be so bad, but I like LS :(

Suggestions?

To change the look of windows explorer and similar thing, yes, you need windowblinds or a similar theming program (shellwm, etc.) As for your second question, yes WB will work with LS, or so I'm told. I have trouble with ShellWM crashing Litestep if I have it (shellwm) running. So personally, I wouldn't suggest that, unless I'm the only one having problems.

Malakim: As has been explained about a thousand times on these forums already: LS has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with windows skinning. LiteStep and Window Blinds are two entirely different beasts.

If you have XP, use the uxtheme.dll patcher (google it) and custom visual styles. If you don't, get Window Blinds. I wouldn't recommend ShellWM either, development seems to have ceased and the program's very buggy.

Whether it's been explained a billion times or not means nothing to me, I don't frequent these forums. In the years I've casually used LS, I've posted maybe 5 times. The search is broken, so I don't bother.

I'll check out the uxtheme patcher.

Sweet, I get to use my pic again. The search works from within forums. click here

That and there are sticky threads on it. What else do you expect us to do if you aren't willing to use the tools given to you?

I've got a setup now where I can change wallpaper and system colors with one click on a menu, and the LS modules are all configured to use the system colors. No visual styles, but I'd rather have the unified look (ala bb4win) than the pure eye candy. I suppose you could do the same sort of thing with visual styles if you used the windows control panel display applet and saved things as a desktop 'theme'.
