Yo guys! I installed litestep yesterday, but today I wanted to remove it so i deleted the litestep folder and rebooted my computer... now nothing works anymore, and all i can see is the programs im using :-) I cannot see any taskbar or anything :-)

What should i do to get my original windows back, so i can install litestep again?

Deja vu.

Search the forum. This question has been asked before.

Seriously, if you think to remove a program you need to delete the directory you shouldn't use a computer for anything other then looking at porn.

what OS are you running?

ya know, this should really be a part of lsfaq... that way we can just post a link to that...

gieron, eman: he's not actually asking how to uninstall. he actually deleted the litestep folder WITHOUT uninstalling, and now (of course) his computer isn't doing too much. at least, that's how I'm reading this.

if you are in 9x:
start to dos, tupe edit c:\windows\system.ini
look for shell=(path to ls)\litestep.exe
and replace it with
shell=explorer.exe

if you are on nt/xp:
hit ctrl+alt+del, go to task manager and run explorer.exe
or if you prefer regedit.exe and look fot the keys that set litestep.exe as shell and replace them for c:\winnt\explorer.exe

if i am wrong, please correct this

even easier-
nt/xp: go into explorer.exe, then the recycle bin, and restore the litestep folder. then, uninstall it THE CORRECT WAY, reboot, and you should be fine. if you emptied the recycle bin already, then stick with sryo's way.
9x: dunno, give sryo's way a shot

and the correct way would be either uninstalling it from the add/remove cpl or running litestep.exe -uninstall

deuce, I realized what he'd done... I think it's just as important to have in a faq, maybe as the first item... It could go like this:

Q: Litestep sux0rs!!!! XPstyles is much better! How do I get rid of litestep!
A: blah blah

Q: It sucks! And I tried just deleting it!
A: blah blah

well, first of all, mr. white was right about that. if you don't know that deleting something isn't the same as uninstalling something, you have no business even thinking about using LS. and if you're advanced enough with windows to think about trying a different shell, you should REALLY know how to correctly uninstall software. of course, I work on a helpdesk, and I see everyday just how stupid people can be... it scares me. :(
oh, also: sega, what the heck are you talking about?!? where did FastSwap come into this?? especially since that page is still under construction...

C'mon St0rm, if you don't know how to uninstall a program correctly, you should be locked up and never allowed near a pc of any type again.

deuce: I don't mean to be rude but:
http://www.litestep.net/index.php?section=4&action=details&id=307

But it wasn't easy to find, and I knew what I was looking for ;)

FastSwap can help to "get St0rm's original windows back"!
I think that there is a right idea which has been implemented in eStep - to remove install/uninstall routines from the main executable file and to use external utilities for shell switching purposes. Does litestep.exe required for switching functions during the normal work? No, it doesn't. So why you must to store in the memory additional kbytes of useless information? Use external utilities!
