The last time I used litestep was about a year and a half ago where I spent quite some time building my own theme. I forgot what I did wrong, but it crashed my computer completely and I was very upset. Im interested in Litestep again and is there anyway I could backup all my files? SHould I partition part of my HDD? ANy suggestions?

I have never seen an instance of LS taking out a machine to the point where a backup would be required to restore. You can ALWAYS get out of whatever jam LS puts you in.

So you think I Should just go ahead and install it?

Anything you break with a litestep theme is always totally fixable. If your worried about tweaking litestep to the point that you can't load anything, get a shell-select tool (carapace is available at http://www.lowdimension.net and is my choice).

It lets you select any shell you have installed (ie explorer and litestep for you?) when you boot up your computer, so if you totally screw up litestep, you can just reboot, get into explorer, and fix litestep.

There are also better failsafe methods, ctrl-alt-f1 brings up a mini popup with important features like kill litestep, restart, etc. Plus win2k and winxp have the nice task manager if you ctrl-alt-delete

You shouldn't need to back anything up at all.

Okay, thanks a lot guys. Im going to install LS later tonite then. Yeah, I'm running on win2k and for some reason, a friend of mine who I usually go to for help in computers said not to get LS for 2k or XP. lp that program sounds great and should make it pretty safe for me to instal. Ah, I always loved LS when it worked for me hehe

Under Win2K, you can install, use, recycle, uninstall, reinstall, recycle, kill, re-run Litestep a thousand times whithout even rebooting your computer...

Aiite, that sounds good. I guess I will install it right now. I was about to ask you guys about rebooting because I cant reboot my computer. For some reason, it doesnt reboot, I built it myself. It's my first computer so I must have one of the jumpers set wrong.

How do you change the wallpaper? Im using the theme Lunar_base. Thanx.

That requires external modules. There are a bunch of these at
http://loose-screws.com/
Or just use the control panel as usual.

i think it's the 4th time now. oh well, here it goes again...

PharOe uses in his themes a module called lswchanger.dll. read the documentation for details. anyway to change the wallpaper you have to disable that module (then you can use the default Display panel) or (the LS way ;) you can find an evar called Wallpaper (should be in the step.rc) and alter that.

oh i'm getting tired answering this question.
