Transparent Clock? Thread last updated on 2004-06-28 14:10:22

Could someone please help me... I am trying to put a clock on my desktop that is transparent except for the text. Currently I am running kclock using grdtransparent but it makes the entire module transparent rather than just the background. Can anyone help me make kclock the way I'm looking to get it or suggest another digital clock module? I'd like to be able to specify the format of the clock if I need to use a different module. Right now my clocks looks like this:

Any help would be appreciated

xlabel

Alright... I got xLabel 3.0.9 and set up the text but now I can't seem to find a font color that doesn't have a tinge of pink to it. And I tried FF00FF for the hell of it but that just made the text invisible... :(

transparencymode .none (or fake)

I tried that but either of those just makes a big box appear around the text. I want the text to be transparent... maybe I'll try none with grdtransparent and see if that works

disable font smoothing

nope... still no go... right now my config is this:
*Label Clock
; ----------------Label Main Settings----------------
ClockX "5"
ClockY "0"
ClockWidth "200"
ClockHeight "25"
ClockImage ""
ClockHueColor "FF00FF"
ClockAlwaysOnTop
; ----------------Label Text Settings----------------
ClockText "[time('ddd, mmm dd yyyy hh:nn:ss')]"
ClockFontColor "FFFFFF"
ClockFontHeight "18"
ClockFontSmoothing FALSE

and I'm still getting that blasted pink/purple color on any of the text that changes... :(

thanks for trying though

try removing the ClockHueColor "FF00FF" and add ClockTransparencyMode true

btw, what os are you trying this on?

XP Pro SP1

And no luck with that suggestion... this is really annoying especially since everywhere I look seems to say that this problem was fixed a while ago... could if have anything to do with the fact that I'm using a white font?

Actually I tested that theory and put the font to black but it still gave me the purple tint... I got rid of the tint with some help on the systray so why is it so hard to get rid of it here? Does anyone know if grdtransparent on xlabel using false transparency would give me the same effect as true transparency is supposed to? meaning the text with no background...

hm, i just tried this with every combination of transparency mode and magic pink and true transparent images, and i had no luck either... i would recommend asking in the ls-universe forum.

Actually I finally got it working by turning the transparency to fake and using grdtransparent on it... Though it would have been nice to get it to work using the included trasparency options at this point I'm just glad it's working without any of the pink text anymore...

Useing an alpha mapped image would work as well. Just a transparent png. From there you don't have to worry about anti-aliasing problems with the text.

Read above; the third reply: it was a usefull one :)

And I didn't post another useless one to say "eh! I've already gave you the clue!"

Then, another sentence:

Before posting something new, read the answers people took time to give you.

And finaly (and because I'm a better guy than you might think) I'll give you another clue:
alphatransparency (alphalevel)
instead of grdtransparent

Then, the final word:
There's usually a doc coming with modules

I did take time to read the answers people posted for me and I tried every single one of them including your latest attempt at helping... Despite what you seem to think of me I am capable of reading and I did read through the doc that came with the module, in this case it was a very nicely formated chm file that helped me get the additional things I wanted done completed. But no matter what combination of transparency options I tried it still gave me the pink text on any text that was being updated. And ElkMonster said that he tried it out and had a similar problem. Rather than just trying to make it seem like I am some worthless moron you might have taken the time to see that I was not posting useless information but responding to each of the answers people offered including your own. I appreciate all of the help that was offered in helping me get a transparent clock that I wanted for my theme done and while grdtransparent may be a roundabout way to get it done it is working the way I want it to work and unless someone had a similar situation and found a solution that I didn't try or wasn't suggested it is what I am going to continue using.

i've talked to GothsSecret from ls-universe, he said they'll have a look. they know text on transparency doesn't work perfect.

Thanks for doing that Elk... I'll probably go over there today and see if they want any info on my specs to help them figure out the problem since I'm guessing it's not a common one otherwise there would have been more info on it before
