hi

i just read that jkey could use all even the special keys on my keyboard to do something ... so now my question is, how do i know the hex values of these special keys?
i have 4 of them on my notebook and untill now i always had to start this launch manager ... id love to throw it off the auto start :D

First you read the docs for jKey...then you do what they say.

well, at first i was like "are you kidding me?", then i went off to see if there is a newer version of jkey including a new readme and now am again at:

are you kidding me?
sorry DeViLbOi, looks like your the one who didnt read the docs ... or at least didnt understand my posting ...

the docs, thats how i found out in the first place - "Mostly usefull for mapping to
extra keys found on enhanced keyboards." but now word on how to get those hex codes of the desired keys!
ok, my old friend google gave me a nice tool to play with http://www.programmersheaven.com/d/click.aspx?ID=F2971, but it doesnt help me with these special keys :(

plus - after closing my launch manager i got kindly reminded that it not only handles those 4 extra keys but also some of those function key combinations for ie controling the volume ...

ok, thats no match for LiteStep, but is there also something to display this graphical overlay for the volume?

I know this is probably not what you need but have you looked at vk104 (Litestep\personal\jkey\vk104)

yes i have and no it aint
that would be too much to ask - how could anyone [besides the guys from Acer] know what my custum keys are sending?

well, ok since he was the one who wrote it in his docs, ill contact the jkey author ... somehow he must know a way ...

There are these wonderful utilities out there, as mentioned in the docs, that tell you the code for the key you pressed. And its amazing what you can find by looking at other LS websites for said information. HRMPF!

that one doesnt work either :(
it only returns some useable values for Fn+UpArrow and Fn+DownArrow ... for the rest of the FnKey combinations that are not hareware coded it returns FF - so how would my launch manager know the difference?

hmmm... you may try AnyKey.dll module (look at the loose-screws.com)... but it is buggy (sometimes it crashes after !recycle)
use scankey2 to determine scan codes...

well, i found out that the 4 special keys hust use some kind of buffer, coz if i press em while the kaunch manager is off they "remember" and the launch manager will start the corresponding apps as soon as it is running.
the keys only "remember" if they were pressed not how often - maybe that helps
ill try scankey2 later on

ok, its getting better and better ... this third app can differentiate between all normal keys and the Fn key combinations like Fn+F8 for mute
only those 4 special keys are still not recognized :/
does anyone of you have such a keyboard with extra keys for launching browser and stuff? does scankey work for you?

since its a notebook i cant even tell for sure, if those keys have anything to do with the keyboard at all ... but anyway i guess they do =/

ill try to write a lil Java app
who knows

I also have a notebook and scankey don't find that 4 keys. It doesn't even find fn+up, fn+down and all the other functions with fn. How did you find that codes?

try this scankey2 - it was the best og em ... i learned from another site that these key aint really 'keys' like their brothers and sisters ... there was a guy who programmed a linux tool to use these keys which means they will never be accessable vie jkey or the like.

Where can I download scankey2? I have searched google for 2 days and I can't find it anywhere :-(

Thanks

comes with the anykey module.

also, if you have any special keyboard software running when you try to use scankey or any other app, it probably won't bring back any results. stop the software, then try it again.

something else I've found that might work is the use of a Jap program called hiddenmenu [search on google]. If you add something to the list when you've installed it and figured it out, you can add hotkeys to it. You give it a Ctrl/Alt/Win modifier, and then press whichever button you want. It returns the code for the keys on my extra (pointless) keys keyboard. It's worth a try, it's not a big download.

N.b. It will run the normal function the first time you press it, so it may not be a brilliant idea to press the shutdown button, or anything similar... just a thought

as far as i learned from my research ... these keys i have aint really related to the keyboard at all ... so ... that tool wont work
well, i dont mind anymore either
