my computer will no longer load up due to lite step. Lite step loads the wallpaper and then freezes my entire computer. Just before this happened i installed a new theme. the new theme is the cause of windows not loading but i cant get in to change it. i have tried using
windows-key+r (opens the run window so i can type "c:\ and return to defult theme") but nothing i have tried has worked. This computer contains VERY important files including a fully designed flash website which i spent over two months on and i do not have backups. please help me...
NOTE: I am writing this from a different computer

1) DON'T DO ANYTHING IMPORTANT WITHOUT BACKUPS!!!
2) Read documentation for things before playing with them.
3) Smack yourself repeatedly in the head with a baseball bat for not following 1 and 2.
4) Bang your head repeatedly into your desk just in case 3 didn't get the job done.
5) Run the "Return to Default Theme" application in your LiteStep folder.

if u are on WIN2k/xp the taskmanager will sort out anything. just use the run command to run waht dev said... dont worry... as long as u dont format... everything will remain in place...

I can't return to defult theme because i can't get into windows. Im on windows 98. I cant run the run command because windows does not start. Can i get into DOS and fix it from there?

Press ctrl-alt-f1 and use the "Run" item in the recovery menu to launch stuff.

6) DON'T DO ANYTHING IMPORTANT ON Win9x!!!

just for that you should be shot. but yah...use the recovery console and run stuff from there. and of course you could fix it from DOS if you read some documentation.

I second DeVoLbOi's sentiment. Get 2k or XP...this won't be the last problem in '98. Much like NT4 was, there's a bit of added complexity, but there are a few important things:
1. Multiple users. Set it up right and yiou have the Administrator account to go back tp if you screw things up.
2. Most screw-ups aren't fatal.
3. you can often leave it on, and only reboot when updating every month or two :).

Start in DOS. I think this should do it:
cd\windows
edit system.ini

find the shell entry, change it from litestep to explorer.
