CommandTransparentEditBox is used yet?

you can't. It just doesn't work. Same for background images - for some reason you need to enable transparency to show them, and that again flickers.

Yeah, but it doesn't always work (tho apparently it still fails better than the current approach), and never works on Win95. And I haven't finished it yet.

And the reason you need to enable transparency to show them is that that is what transparency does in lsxcommand: it makes the edit box transparent so you can see the bitmap through it.
