I just downloaded the newst version of lite step, and a new theme for it. When i installed the new theme Litestep performed an illegal opperation. Now everytime i load my computer litestep loads and before i can do anything to change back to the windows shell it performs an illegal opperation and quits. How can I load the windows shell from Dos, i'm at the C:\ spot in dos and would need specific things to type. Please help quick....

well, we would need to know which windows version you're running first of all. second, there's probably dozens of threads already explaining how to manually switch back to running explorer. if you really want the answer quickly, like you said you do, I would suggest SEARCHING FOR IT.

OH my god... i'm so freaking dumb, Windows 98. I searched the registry for litestep.exe hoping to find it in the part that determines what shell to load but it can't find it...

i think the system.ini line you're looking for is shell=litestep. just change that to shell=explorer, reboot, then you should be working again.

thanks for your help, unfortuantly i was at my other computer trying to fix this and i eventually did... here's how, maybe it should be included in an FAQ some where...

i got it... when litestep loads, after the error pops up you have to click cntl alt f1, then go to run. from run click browse till you get to the Lite step folder, for me its C:\Litestep Open that and inside there should be a thing that says "Restore Default Theme.ink" or something to that extent... open it and run it.
