LSTS vr LSCP Thread last updated on 2003-03-02 10:15:10

Just thought it might be interesting to generate some discussion on the topic without it being a "I have a problem" thread. Which do you prefer and why?
Myself, I prefer LSCP. The reason being when it switches between themes it changes the step.rc and then recycles. I believe LSTS actually kills and restarts Litestep. That's not always a problem but if your systray items restart etc, it can be a bit of a pain. With a recycle that's not a problem of course.
Any thought?

i know that you can't run lscp when litestep.exe isn't running so if you have to kill LS then you need lsts

I suppose thats true. Of course if you're running a shell manager (shellon, carpace, etc) you're good either way.

I run LSTS as my shell. :)

Why would you have to kill LS when it wasn't running?

that's not what i said!

still prefer theme switching from popup. e-sushi's themez4.dll is an excellent module for that

i prefer LSCP. the problem with LSTS is that bug that defaults to sdtep.rc instead of step.rc when there is no *.THM file.

Ohhh, I was confused by the "I believe LSTS actually kills ... Litestep." ¦D

That's the reason why LSTS doesn't work with my theme :)
Thank's moshi! Then I'll create a *.thm file.

Huh... After LSCP borning I forget about LSTS... but there is a smaaaaaaaall disadvantage... if the target theme is not made by Phar0e, I need to add lswchanger.dll to it before I'll be able to switch between it and the others... I don't understand why, but nobody else uses this great module :((

I really don't understand what inform-sega is talking about... but, just for the information: I'm using lswchanger.dll for a long time...

Hmmm... I wanted to say that the most part of themes which I have seen required from me to manual change of wallpaper or using of LSCP for that purposes. The remaining part is themes by Phar0e... mb I didn't see your public themes?

i prefer LSTS, it previews, it doesnt do anything but swap themes, and it to my knowledge, doesnt atcaully kill litestep, it just changes the dirThemes varible and recycles. and from what ive seen, or atleast the version of LSTS i use, when there isnt a .thm file it just makes on

Posted by member 1783 on 2003-03-02 09:29:24 link

my lsts work only when there is a *.thm and in any other case it assigns stdtep.rc to the rcStp variable or sth like that so that nothin loads. but still i use LSTS cause it's littlebit more comfortable.
anyway i agree with inform: PharOe's themes rule :) keep up the good work!

guys guys, i figured out what your talking about with LSTS. its really really really simple to solve. The first time you install a theme w/o a *.thm, LSTS does a create a new one. But it doesnt know the locations of any of the files(namely step.rc). You need to Configure(which you can do from LSTS) that theme first, and then it works fine.
