I know that there has been another post about this question but I looked through the thread and tried the information but it did not help... I changed the information in the themes settings to use the litestep popup2 instead of popup2-2.1.4 but when I did a refresh it tried to d/l the popup and was unable to do anything until I changed the settings back... I am currently using austerity with LS .24.7... I'd really appreciate any help that could be offered
that should be popup2-2.1.6
just replaced the 1.4 with 1.6 and it was able to download this time but I still have the items showing up twice in the menu... what is really wierd is that it is only the menu items not the sub menus... any other suggestions for how to fix it?
what did you do to make the entries appear twice?
installed litestep... that's about it....
I've read in other threads that it is a problem with some themes using popup2 but the info in the threads didn't really help me fix the problem... I'm currently looking for a new theme to use but for now I was hoping to figure out a way to fix this problem
I agree with doy. you have to try and get double posts now.
since the forum search is down, could you point out the threads that have dealt with this problem?
LINK
and the search for the individual forums has still been working for me
that forum post no longer applies because you would have a newer version of popup2 via NLM than you would in your $LiteStepDir$.
Can you give us a screenshot of your problem to work from? Im wondering if we are working on two different problems.
I can honestly say I have never seen that problem. It was always Double Accessories or Double Startup. Whats your popup line look like for that?
theme.rc has:
include "$ConfigDir$popuptheme.rc"
;------------------------------------------------------------------------------
; loadmodule config
;------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*NetLoadModule jdesk-0.711
*NetLoadModule popup2-2.1.6
were you looking for anything other than that file?
there is something funny in your $PersonalDir$popup.rc or in that theme.
i got this problem for the mbm5 entry on my start menu, i didnt look into it because i uninstalled it (because i didnt need it anymore)
however, i think the cause might be that there is in entry for it in the "All users" start menu and then ALSO the current user start menu.
This is just an idea, i really dont know anything about how the popup2-x.x.x plugin works.
popup2-2.1.6 is smart enough to only show them once...its something we had waited a loooong time to fix.
this is what is in my popup.rc file for the programs part... and I also changed all of the themes I am trying out to 2.1.6 and I still have this problem no matter what theme I use... :(
IF Win9x
*Popup "programs" !DynamicFolder:"$Programs$"
ELSE
*Popup "programs" !DynamicFolder:"$Programs$|$CommonPrograms$"
; *Popup "admin tools" !DynamicFolder:"$AdminToolsDir$"
ENDIF
put win9x in your theme.rc file and see if it gets fixed. maybe popup2 took into account double folders and not double entries as someone said earlier and you are the only person to have double entries in their start menu.
Which items are being shown multiple times? Usual suspects are Accessories, Startup and Admin Tools. Those exist in both the "all users" start menu dir and the "current user" start menu dir, hence old popup2 version showed them twice. That problem should be fixed. Is that what you're seeing?
I just checked my folders and I only have items in the start menu folder under "all users" so there's not even a chance for it to be doubled up there... plus I'm using the popup2 that is supposed to fix that problem... it's only items not folders in the start menu that get doubled up which is really wierd...
All popup2 versions that are available separately (ie. from 2.0 up) should fix the problem. If you remove the items from "all users", does it make both items in popup2 disappear? Is there any pattern in which items are doubled? Like "they all start with a 'b'" or something like that?
I have a fix for this problem... but it only works if you are the only 'user' of your computer, or you don't really care about the other user's.
FOR WINXP:
Cut and paste the contents of your C:/documents and settings/user_name/start menu/
to...
C:/documents and settings/all users/start menu/
Effectively, removing entries that could possibly be taken from both. Becuase, when you paste it replaces and pastes. I noticed this problem also, a while ago. The above is what I used to solve the problem.
I'll give that a try... but the only wierd thing is that a lot of the stuff that is doubled up isn't in any of the other user dirs...
ilmcuts:
the only pattern to it is that it's only the shortcuts themselves... not any of the folders... just the links to the programs.... so there's only one accessories folder but two links to calculator
Hrm. Must be a very rare bug in popup2. But since it doesn't seem reproducable (no such problems over here for example) it'll be a bit hard to track down. Do you have MSVC installed so that you could step through it yourself? If not... what happens if you create a new directory, copy over all the shortcuts and then point popup2 at that new dir? Does it still double everything? If so, does it still do it if you delete all but one shortcut?
im not clear about it completely, but i think it might have to do with several users startmenus showing up in litestep. i had something simliar before, and i removed litestep and installed it again for only my user, and it worked.
I have exactly the same problem. I don't know how to fix it, I just installed Lite Step and I have never used it before.
I've seen this problem before, it was because the guy copied the start menu from the "All Users" account to his own. By default Litestep loads the start menu from the "All Users" account and the account you are logged in as so that it can get any custom start menu items for your user. He fixed it by disabling one of the "All Programs" popup variables. There are two of them, one looks in the "All Users" the other in your user account. Try disabling one of them or the other and see which works best for you. Maybe I don't knwo what I am talking about, but this seemed to fix His problem.
*Popup "programs" !DynamicFolder:"$Programs$|$CommonPrograms$"
This is the line to change, it can be found in your X:/Litestep/Personal/popup.rc file. Remove either "$Programs$|" and recycle to see if that works, make sure to remove the "|"(Pipe symbol) or remove "$CommonPrograms$" and see if that works.
we already went through that
I think I'm going to try what someone suggested about removing and reinstalling litestep.... I probably need to remove litestep for a while anyway as it's on a laptop and I need to send it to dell for repairs... and I don't want them to tell me all my problems are b/c I'm not using explorer... :p
Well I finally managed to get rid of that problem on my laptop but now it is happening on my desktop... and last time I think it was b/c I had a space in my name b/c I reformated my laptop and just used a default account and the information showed up like it was supposed to... but I am using a default account on my desktop and I am getting double entries here too... Just so no one needs to look through the thread again I have already updated to popup2-2.1.6. I am using the austerity theme until I find one that meets my needs. I have already checked to see if there are any double entries in the start menu of my account and the default user. I have put everything into the default user start menu. Only programs are doubled, not any of the folders nor is control panel... can anyone offer any suggestions b/c I really don't want to have to do what I did on my laptop to fix this problem
