Run... \\servername\share Thread last updated on 2003-10-03 17:06:32

So...All these LS builds and I still can't hit a run prompt and throw in a \\blah\blah and have explorer pop up at that server and share. I have to open explorer and stick it in the address/location bar =P

Anyone know of any builds/utils that will allow for this? It's my one and only nitpick. I've been running LS since like 96? I don't plan on stopping, its just a random annoyance. I've worked around it this long...

Maybe DeViLbOi needs to update his downloads section with a link to the latest LS builds ;)

I was asked by the devs to not put the beta (alpha) stuff on the site to help save new users from catching all the bugs.

0.24.7 is on the latest ots installer, and on phil's site.

run prompt? that little box that shows up when you hit "run..." ? being a windows feature, LS hardly has anything to do with it. or maybe i just didn't fully understand the situation.

[edit] i didn't. without a shell running it will still popup the share folder, but giving an error msg.. one's always learning.

well sheeit..hook me up DeV... as for you...you...patheticgeek, Yes the runbox. And LS's interaction with it. I know that liteman.dll fixed a lot of the LSExplorer things but there are apparently issues in the older versions. Somone smack me with a link or two so I can get on the ML and get the new ver. davewujcik at oc7 dot org

24.7b3 is at leaf.terica.net

For reference you may find that other file managers will correctly handle paths typed into the run box when Explorer isn't running as a shell. I can confirm that Directory Opus is one but it's a commercial product.

leaf.terica.net is quite teh broken
*runs to google*

ugg...yeah...like upgrading to 24.7 didn't break anything =P RabidVWM just went apeshit =) and the whole running \\servername\share still doesn't work...nor does !about in lsxcommand...joy!

Posted by member 24 on 2003-08-21 08:24:36 link

Okay..all my configs are updated, things are working they way they are supposed to...EXCEPT for my original issue...still can't run \\servername\share =P

Posted by member 1 on 2003-08-21 08:42:59 link

that doesn't work because you still aren't specify'n what application you want it to open in. Exploder makes the assumption of itself...LS doesn't. So get off yer lazy butt and type the extra letters. If you look at all the text you typed here that you could have used there there wouldn't be a problem. :p

Posted by member 24 on 2003-08-21 10:38:06 link

bah...LS should handle that. I shouldn't have to specify explorer... LS should call explorer.

Posted by member 202 on 2003-08-21 12:18:29 link

for the record, i don't have to specify explorer to run \\server\share. 24.7b3 over 20030513 24.6, winxp[pro].

you might have to use .7's LSUseSystemDDE *shrug*

Posted by member 24 on 2003-08-25 09:14:37 link

i'm 24.7b3 in win2ksp4

LSUseSystemDDE doesn't seem to change anything. Would I have to restart LS completely or just recycle for that to take effect? I just recycled. *note* 24.7 recycles OMG fast... I do have issues with randomly disappearing shortcuts though...they come back when I mouseover, but they do disappear.

Posted by member 1 on 2003-08-25 11:01:35 link

complete reload is what i learned last night from ilmcuts...recycle just doesn't cut it.

Posted by member 3116 on 2003-08-26 22:15:14 link

ummmm... am i the only one who uses ctrl+alt+f1 and click on run?

Posted by member 24 on 2003-08-27 09:52:47 link

hallowed: probably...considering that doesn't work for me either.

Restarting LS with LSUseSystemDDE doesn't do it either. A call does go through, I can hear the HD chatter as it trys to pull up explorer, but thats it.

any new versions out yet?

beta4 is on leaf.terica.net

Running from the windows Run prompt should be handled by DDE.

But to just test things under Litestep itself, bind a hotkey like: *Hotkey WIN+CTRL N "\\servername\share" and see if it runs correctly. I know that does under PureLS.

If it does run from the hotkey, but not the run prompt, then it seems like there is a DDE handler issue.

Posted by member 2111 on 2003-10-01 22:55:37 link

try loading the msdde.dll module. This fixes the run command problems and also things such as the search right menu option in windows explorer.

Posted by member 99 on 2003-10-02 00:25:14 link

FWIW, I installed .24.7 beta 4 with omar's installer and I can type "\\servername\share" into lsxcommand and it brings up explorer fine. I haven't modified austerity in any way that would matter. Win2kSP4.

So all I can say is, weird.

Posted by member 31 on 2003-10-02 10:44:42 link

I think he meant from the windows run prompt. Doing it from there won't work without DDE.

Posted by member 99 on 2003-10-02 11:30:40 link

The run prompt works just as well here. :/

Posted by member 24 on 2003-10-03 17:06:32 link

I'll give it a try tonight most likely. Thanks.
