Is there anyway for the backgrounds of each task in taskbar3.dll to be transparent? I tried creating a block with the color FF00FF and set that as the skin for each task hoping the taskbar would show through, but it just shows a solid gray. Any suggestions?

maybe don't use an image but background color.

The only way to achieve this is to hook taskbar3 to lsbox: the transparency will be performed by lsbox.

Use tasks.dll :)
