Need some help with my theme... Thread last updated on 2003-02-09 14:37:18

Ok, I need some help here, need some input. Right now, looking at my current screenshot, I am running Litestep with DesktopX behind it to get the nice curved bar at the bottom and to do my system tray in the top right corner. I am taking the advice of DeViLbOi and trying to put the sys tray in the bottom bar. I want to do it 3x3 but the issue I have is that it has to fit in a 52x52 square to fit in with the rest of my bar. I have to reduce the icon size to about 13x13 with a 1pixel space in between the icons to get it to fit. They distort and don't look good when doing that, so I was thinking of having a button that would pop up the system tray... I'd really like some input if anyone thinks I should do this, and where I could put the button, or if there is a better way to place the systray icons.. Let Me Know!!... Please!!!

My experience has been that icons will look better at 12 than 13 pixels. Could be worth a try anyway.

first of all: get rid of DesktopX. if you use layercut instead of shortcut2 you can use alpha-transparent PNGs in LiteStep as well ;)

for the icons, i think the default 16x16 will look best, as your bar is pretty big anyways. nothing wrong with that :)

Ok, trying to use layercut but each time I load get a problem with Litestep unable to find msvcr70.dll. I downloaded the DLL, put it in my system32 dir and tried registering it but it can't. Anyone have this problem or know what I can do to fix it?

I had the same issue with the latest layercut, but I also needed msvcp70.dll. If windows isn't telling you that you need it, maybe you already have it. It might be worth a try checking your system folder for both msvcr70.dll and msvcp70.dll

BTW, I had a heck of a time finding those two files, so if your missing one, good luck in your search.

Anybody have any suggestions on where I should start on making a theme of my own? Maybe some ideas on the break-down of a theme and what to tackle first?

Find a theme or two that have the kind of features you like, and then modify them, rather than starting from scratch.

Lord_Zelo: try an older version of layercut.
