I've started using label. I don't need transparency. I thought this would be the most appropriate tool. Though using it to create a single "back image" and putting things like VWM, winamp and so-on on top of the back image isn't a good idea. Simply because I can't set the back image to be always on top and if a window over laps this area it looks odd. I'm thinking it is probably a better practice to create a label for each gap.
