Last night, I noticed that my problem was gone. When I woke up this morning, it was still functioning properly. I rebooted and it's still working fine. I have no idea what changed between now and a few days ago, but at least it's working. I think the step.rc file is the same as when I started. Well, thanks for all the help. Hopefully it'll continue working how I want it to work.
