Here's what I did to get arrows:
xPopupUseTextArrow true
xPopupArrowtext 8
xPopupArrowFont Marlett
xPopupArrowFontAlign .right

The character "8" in the Marlett font is a smaller right-facing arrow.
Use the CharMap accessory to see some more.
