I use Seagate Personal Firewall and it set to allow all in/out-comming connections for any applications using POP/SMTP ports.
And I use no desktop module, but... I think there's not much deal with it, I've disbled the module.
Ohh, I use another app to manage windows behavior including transparency effects and give a really neat look & feel. The screenshot is on my profile, the name is "Actual Window Manager". I've set a lotta of transparency just to show what can it do.
