I've tried moving the registry keys out of the wow6432node, adding that into the string, etc. I still don't know how to stop explorer from wanting to be the shell. Haven't had a lot of time to devote to the messier investigations though, so it's possible that it's not terribly impossible.

LiteStep does run ok on top of 64-bit Explorer tho. :)
