I have had no problem using any themes on my widescreen (1280x800) laptop. I also haven't even seen any non-OTS2 themes I can think of in the past 6 months. If you have used one of the new installers and updated to the latest build and still think that litestep is too archaic and tricky, I suggest you try a different shell.
