http://trackerv3.com/ gets my recommendation. Small, fast, free (although not open source), with a good amount of usability tweaks that other fm's seem to ignore. One obvious one is the ability to show all files with their extensions, but only select the name part by default when executing a rename operation.

Not as powerful as radsoft's X-File suite, but a lot easier to get your hands on.
