would it be better to just use an existing litestep module archive? i mean no offense, but i just don't see the point if having another place to look for modules when a link to one of the existing ls module archives would easily suffice.
For the same reason we have multiple Theme archives...help sites...tutorial pages...distributions...
Look in the links section, and you'll find 'your' link to existing module archives. Feel free not to use this one if you think it is unnecessary. :)
Why do people always ask why?
i ask why when i don't understand a decision, don't you?
Do you think that asking would change the decision?
I had hoped, but I suppose not really. you have no reason to listen to my comments other than entertainment and user feedback. After all, what do I know about running a web site?
(That said, feel free to ignore me from this line down)
It's just that it kind of annoys me to see people repeat work that has already been done and already works. It's like no one person sat down and made litestep as it is today; instead, it's the combination of many different pieces of work. There are only duplicate parts where someone saw something was lacking and had to make their own parts.
If you're trying to make the litestep site for everyone, why expect to have to make everything from scratch for yourself? If parts already exist, if collections are already in existence, why not use them?
Just my thoughts on how many LS sites are handling things... like ls.com and lsthemes.com and here. You’re all very talented people, but if you all didn't make a modules section (and a themes section and a help section and a screenshot section) of your very own, things may be better off. granted that would lead to some venerability, placing all the eggs in one basket and whatnot, but it seems like if all the eggs are in the same basket, it's a lot easier than carrying three baskets.
I understand that it's nearly impossible to share stuff across sites, but you have to admit, it would be cool to have, say, one SS archive shared across 3 sites.
You see it as us repeating the work of other sites. I see it as us having multiple copies of things around the net so nothing is lost when a site dies. When LSnet went down the community died because it was the only themes site at the time. Now we have multiple sites doing it. Also, if you don't like how a site does modules you can go elseware, and choice is always good. Plus...the 40 million complaints of "Where do I download LiteStep?" had to stop...shortly thereafter would have been the "Where do I get modules for this POS?". We do offer other sites for you to download from so I really don't see the problem in the end.
what i meant was some way of replicating all the data in a given archive. I know it's not gonna happen, but it would be cool if multiple sites could ofer the same resources, each in thier own way (you submit something at one place, it shows up at 2 or 3, stored seprately at each site)
And as to going to some other site, i can't really, 'cause despite the wierd isp restrictions, ls.net is still looking like it's the best. It's no so much a problem as a 'wouldn't it me cool if...'
I know it's not gonna happen
Then shut up......dang.....annoying people.
You are more annoying being so rud.
He has been very polite, and just sharing his thoughts, that has nothing wrong. He clearly wrote:
>feel free to ignore me from this line down
But you are so rud that continue reading just to offend him... Not a very good attitude, why not try and be constructive, and if you're uncapable of that just follow your advise:
>Then shut up......dang.....annoying people.
/me promptly stops discussing things in a .... forum.
I agree with Mguel on this one. 0rpheus has a right to his opinion and I would prefer to hear it. I can't improve the site without opinions and being rude like that sure doesn't help me get them.
Sorry for being rud...
Serious, why start a post with "I know it's not gonna happen"? If it's not gonna happen, what's the point?
Doesn't make sense to me....but whatever. Guess I coulda put it nicer...ehh...hindsight is 20/20.
OK lets leave this behind and continue contributing for the good of LS and its community ;)
i think i'm quite done with my 'Ideas...Requests...Suggestions...Support' for the moment. definately a cool site tho, DeViLbOi, and the bandwidth this site allows for is incredible (uncompressed screenshots - woohoo!). just remember that you don't have to serve every need of the LS community personally (even if you do a great job.)
