2years ago, litestep.net was the leading source for all your litestep needs. After it dissappeared, the "scene" by no means followed but had gotten spread out all over the place. At that time I alswy stopped hangin out on these sites, and pretty much put litestep down. due to time constrains and personal matters. Now litestep.net is back and so am I. I love it ...but ill tell ya (heres the annyoing part) all the info on litestep is dupped all over the net..and even worse a lot of it is just plain on scattered. I once again consider myself a nebie to LS just because of the advancments that have taken place in my absence.

What im getting at is that I wish there was a definate source for all my litesteps need, instead of 15 sites all offereing 10 of hte samethings then each one having 2 things of their own. I know this sounds like a rant (I guess it is)
With implimentation of OTS (?) litestep really set it self up for rapid advancement, and this is awesome !
I have been trying to catch up/ keep up with all the develpoments. From all these diferent builds to all the themes and other type things I feel are probably still over my head.
All in all its good litestep is back

1 question (having a fresh install of LS) w/ simplicity im looking for other thmese that wouldnt require too much playing with to get installed....
I like simplicity alot, but I HATE that fact that you can only see "so much" of your sys tray! Im looking for a theme that will show me all my icons in my systray, considering I cant (dont know how)to resize the one with simplcity

any help would be good help !

You can make the system tray "grow" with the latest version of the litestepinstaller. It under the options menu "Shift L-click" if i'm not mistaken.

sputnik---I think it has a set maximum of 22 (programs) am I correct? auto resize on. You could edit the step.rc file, but I don't know if you would achieve the effect you want. I'm a newbie with litestep too though..

I agree with pingywon, OTS is the best thing that ever happened to litestep. I tried it a few years ago and hated that I had to set my shortcuts with every skin. there was too much configuring to have it set as shell. You know, the typical b--ching and complaining you guys are probably used to (or tired of) hearing. "THIS THING DELETED MY DESKTOP!! I CAN'T RUN ANY THING!! WHAT THE ---- IS A REGISTRY?! That sort of thing.
I found it runs pretty good on xp and I assume 2k as well.
I still find changing skins to be problematic. Download five of them and maybe one works without errors to fix. Thats because of all the new indie builds that have been released though--keep up the good work....umm...who ever is making this thing now.

Ah I retrieved it ... wish I thought of the back button sooner...ummm, yeah I feel stupid now. Well I'd delete my last two posts but I don't think I can.

DeViLbOi I would like to personally thank you for all your help the other night. Also for hearing my opinions even if you don't agree wih them all.

The OTS Themes you gave me really showed the power/beauty of LS. "Most of them worked rather well "right off the bat" Others gave me a few erros, but still worked rahter well. Now I m on a "Quest for themes" ...much like everyone else I suppose. Is there a "definiative site that offers good OTS Themes ?

Over the last little while I have really explorerd the "behind the scenes" options (E.G. !bangs and what not) and have found customizing to be not only simple but productive as well.

? - has anyone had a violent LS crash when opening/closing Netmeeting un a XP OS (mine was XP Home on my lap top)

thank you for all your posts, LS is back...and damn it feels good

I would just like to add, that at one time this was the foundation for all litestep designers, litestep was in fact just starting to explode, thier was talk about really making some great litestep themes, and people were getting small rewards for their work, it was fun, it was exciting, it was challenging and it was becoming rewarding for some of the top designers. At the big boom litestep.net just *censored* everyone , they didnt even leave their site up, they did not ask for money, but that was their stupidity, as many of us would have bought what was needed to keep the site up and the hobby that it had become. for over a year designers such as myself have lost much interest in litestep and this site was not worth waiting for, it sucks for the litestep user and designers, somehow , someway the love for litestep is gone, the momentum is gone and this site is a tragedy compared to what the old litestep.net was like, the only reason I come back to this site, is to confirm my suspicions that litestep will never be what it was becoming.
But in all honesty I am to blame also, as I was going to set up my own litestep site, with cash prices for the best theme, the newest theme, the themes that would become model themes, the designers would be prompted to make better designs and modules, designers dont need a whole lot just some recognition for their work, but I believed that litestep.net was coming back and strong, month after month i put it off as litestep died slowly, and now it is to late, their are so many shells similar and strangner to litestep that many litestep users have switched to, yes I am little angry, and a little sad for everyone that got wrapped up into litestep so heavily.

Litestep was becoming so powerfull at one time that no one ever whinned about configuring the step rc. Now it is just a pain in the ass.

I hate to admit it, but coalxman made some good points.... Im not sure what all went on with the LiteStep team(s) but it has spuddered. Sure, we have this OTS thing now but what about all the sites that ARENT up now, LS.com included. And I love LS as much as everyone else but why do I have a sinking sensation that there will be NO more updates? I mean, hell... even the themes have dried up, the good ones anyways. Its sad because LS had the potiential to do some damage to MS's explorer.exe... LS takes wayyyyyyyyyyy less memory, crashes ever so rarely. And lastly its just cooler... but now its like stale coke. But no, Im not trying to complain, but I do want to ask... what the hell happened? It just seems like this LS development team has become some sparce effort that only a few active members keep alive.

I can say for sure that there is at least one dev that is working hard on the core of LS. However, if you think LS needs help...pitch in...don't whine and complain about it.

I was a litestepper for a long time. Best shell I know(knew?) of. I was bored and decided to check this place out again today. I hope the community can have a renaissance. I will study the status quo and see if I can make some real contributions. LS needs some work to be truly good with XP now, I hope we can make it happen together.

98lite is still around too, now at http://www.litepc.com/
This was originally meant to work with LS, IIRC. They are "working" on removing IE from XP. Expect no further details. :P
