You probably here this alot - I'm newbie to litestep and have some ideas for customising my desktop. But all the information i can find about making a theme seems to just say - download some - and reverse engineer one.

Does anyone know of any good tutorials ANYWHERE that explain even the basics of how to set up a theme???

What kind of information are you looking for? There are only a few steps to making a LiteStep theme, but mostly it is trial and error at the configuration part. There are tutorials on using LS and basic configurations, but I do't think there is one for creating a theme because settings are normally intuitive.

I learned most of everything i know about LS in the LS docs.
In fact, they are all you need.

I found something interesting @ shell-shocked by Joeblade - basically its a run through of the extreme basics of where to start. I didn't fancy lookin through someone else's complicated code with modules etc i don't understand. So i'm fuinding it really helpful - i can work the rest out in time. Thanks newayz

I think I worked through that some tutorial on Joeblade. It was very helpful but also very outdated. If you are following this tutorial I would check every step with how the Simplicity theme done it or you will have a theme that doesn't comply with the OTS and you won't be able to distribute it.

Ohhh yea - while i'm learning i'm not too fused about OTS. No disrespect - i understand how that works - the OTS thing is no big deal - just showed me the basics of core modules whilst making a functional theme. So now i'm off to make me own theme through that trial and error idea suggested before
