metapad, ultraedit, and editplus.

I personally use metapad for day to day usage, but when i need to do some programming for basic, html, litestep, sonique2, etc i will use ultraedit or editplus.

I'm debating between that and gVIM now :-/

Currently I'm using Editor², you can get it here http://netez.com/2xExplorer it's a Quadratic replacement for Notepad....
I tryed to use "NotepadPro v1.5" but it always gives me a .Ocx file error on startup....

If you need something super basic and lite, try Crankpad. I like it because you can make it completely transparent.

Hello people
just wondering, what text editor would you all suggest for coding?
I just want something to do like Java coding, I'm using metapad right now, but I'm wondering if there is a similar program that has maybe syntax highlighting for coding.

c'mon guys. there's only one really neat editor: ultraedit. worth every penny

metapad, because it's free and ultraedit because it's the best...

SciTE has syntax highlighting, shortcuts for compile/build, block folding (very cool for coding), uh... stuff. No tabs or nothin' tho, it's strictly SDI.

phenix0000 check out EditPlus... from the help file:

..."EditPlus supports powerful and customizable syntax highlighting for HTML, CSS, PHP, ASP, Perl, C/C++, Java, JavaScript and VBScript by default."

im not familiar with ultra edit though... checking it out now...

crankpad here

For the link impared: (it's all about convenience, people)
<a href="http://fixedsys.com/context/">ConTEXT</a>
<a href="http://www.editplus.com/">EditPlus</a>
<a href="http://www.ultraedit.com/">UltraEdit</a>
<a href="http://www.liquidninja.com/metapad/">metapad</a>

None of these have block folding? What's wrong with these people?

There's also <a href="http://www.activestate.com/Products/Komodo/">Komodo</a>, but that's much more than a text editor.

TextPad is my favorite. It has all the right features in a clean user interface. And UI matters around here...after all, we do Litestep. The problem with TextPad is the cost. I just downloaded ConTEXT (hadn't heard of it before now). It looks strangely similar to TextPad--and it's free!! It doesn't have quite as many features, but it just might do the trick.

my favorite is NoteTab Light (free version of NoteTab Pro). nothing beats a tabbed text editor when doing LS themes with many config files.

AlphaEdit is also cool, but i don´t like it´s search function as much as the one in NoteTab Light.

personally I am an emacs guy, it's free as well !! But Context does look pretty Interesting.

For Java Specific - Looking at my freeware library - Jedit (java based), JCreator, Visual Paradigm, GEL, FreeJava and the multi-language ConText -->>> My favorite ;)

I use EditPad Lite: http://www.editpadpro.com/editpadlite.html

I like it. It does the job.
