well, you WON'T see explorer or systray running. They are parts of the explorer shell, and you're not running explorer if you're running litestep. usually. now, for the screen going black, I dunno. if you still had it installed, I would suggest checking the theme settings, but you don't so I don't know what to tell you.

maybe instead of jumping in feet first i should do a bit of YAWN reading about litestep but i just like getting my fingers dirty and as for not changing themes i would be just as well staying with windows which is soooooooo shitey :-)but cheers any way lads (i assume???)later

truthfully, I just jumnped in feet first myself. I found new themes, got errors, fixed them myself, and kept going. I downloaded extra modules, set them up, and got them working. it's the best way to learn (IMHO), but you need to give yourself a chance to fix the problem. don't freak at the first sign of trouble. however, reading CAN'T hurt, but it's not the only way to learn.

Instead of rolling back your system, next time use a boot disk and go in your system.ini and you should see the below line under [boot]:

[boot]
oemfonts.fon=vgaoem.fon
system.drv=system.drv
drivers=mmsystem.dll power.drv
user.exe=user.exe
gdi.exe=gdi.exe
sound.drv=mmsound.drv
dibeng.drv=dibeng.dll
comm.drv=comm.drv
mouse.drv=lmouse.drv
keyboard.drv=keyboard.drv
*DisplayFallback=0
fonts.fon=vgasys.fon
fixedfon.fon=vgafix.fon
386Grabber=vgafull.3gr
display.drv=pnpdrvr.drv
shell=C:\LiteStep\litestep.exe
previousProjectorProcessID=0

(add the below at the end and remove the ; when switching back and add the ; to the beginning of the line where litestep is to remove litestep.)
;shell=C:\Windows\Explorer.exe

Heres how it looks when you change to normal explorer again.

[boot]
oemfonts.fon=vgaoem.fon
system.drv=system.drv
drivers=mmsystem.dll power.drv
user.exe=user.exe
gdi.exe=gdi.exe
sound.drv=mmsound.drv
dibeng.drv=dibeng.dll
comm.drv=comm.drv
mouse.drv=lmouse.drv
keyboard.drv=keyboard.drv
*DisplayFallback=0
fonts.fon=vgasys.fon
fixedfon.fon=vgafix.fon
386Grabber=vgafull.3gr
display.drv=pnpdrvr.drv
;shell=C:\LiteStep\litestep.exe
previousProjectorProcessID=0
shell=C:\Windows\Explorer.exe

see the change? Just make yourself a boot disk.... all ya REALLy need :D
