Is this setup possible? Thread last updated on 2008-08-02 22:05:31

First, is it possible to run LiteStep under Vista? If not, I can wait :)

Second, I have a dream desktop configuration, and I've been looking for a shell that can handle it. LiteStep seems to be the most promising.

So the desktop has two bars and a dock. The upper bar is a normal Windows taskbar, but without the clock and start button. In place of the clock is a row of four squares which allow switching between four virtual desktops.

The bottom bar is essentially the same as the OS X menu bar, with the system tray, clock, and standard menu ribbon. Between the ribbon and systray, however, there is a search bar (like on the Vista start bar). Where the Apple button sits in OS X is the start button, which instead of launching usual apps launches administrative and monitoring tools (like My Computer, Control Panel, RAM Monitor, etc.)

The dock sits at the edge of the top bar, and, well, is a dock. It holds shortcuts, docklets, and sticky notes.

When you maximize an app, the top bar and dock are covered up, but if you mouse near the top of the screen, they reappear.

Can LiteStep handle all that?

LiteStep can handle that with the exception of the "Standard Menu Ribbon." LiteStep however is really buggy in Vista so you will probably not be able to pull it off.

Alrighty... I'll wait until LiteStep is stable on Vista.

Can ObjectBar and LiteStep coexist?

I think so...but everyone seems to prefer RocketDock.

RocketDock covers ObjectBar and ObjectDock? I didn't know it could make bars and docks!
