Hi,

I've just installed latest litestep and have downloaded a great skin (Elysium for Lightstep)...

I've gotten it all installed and working and everything I just have this one problem...

How on earth do you assign the desktop wallpaper in a theme?
(Please give code snippet if possible)

I've searched all the limited online resources for litestep and none has given a basic instruction on adding a wallpaper with the theme.

The problem is that I am running vista -- everytime I assign a wallpaper thru explorer, it adds it, but as soon as I restart it has gone again.

Any help much appreciated..
Cheers,
Phil

Wallpapers are configured just as they are with explorer as your shell. There is a setting that may be configured in the theme.ini to change the wallpaper based on a theme, but that can be disabled and would require you to change themes to default back to it.

Hi,

At the moment I don't really care how I get the wallpaper to appear.

I think this might be a vista incompatibility, because I have tried so many things and nothing works..

Right using both MZscript and lsWchanger I have managed to get the wallpaper to load when I recycle litestep - however, these changes don't seem to be loading on boot.

Is there a simple reason for this? Is there a quicker way to do it?

I only want one wallpaper to load and that will be dandy>

Many thanks,
Phil

In XP it is...
Control Panel >> Display >> Background
Can't speak for Vista because I would never use that hunk of crap. But you could always use IE and Right click and use Set as Background.

you could also use the .ini file to load the wallpaper!

Hi,

Thanks for your advice.

Firstly, Vista is not a hunk of crap! You should try it -- theyve fixed a load of issues with vista. Okay, it wasnt what they ought to have achieved in so much time - but it is definitely a stable platform - far more so than xp.

Secondly, I know I said Im a noob, but that was specifically in the use of litestep. I know how to use windows, otherwise I dont think I would have attempted litestep at all.

I tried applying a wallpaper through explorer (as already mentioned), the trouble is that when I reboot litestep doesn't appear to be loading the windows appearance options (specifically the wallpaper)

I tried using a .ini file (I'm assuming this only works when you install the theme?) I'm not sure that I'm using the correct code for it the .ini file. Do you have a snippet I could borrow?

Otherwise, what seems strange is that either MZscript or LSWchanger is loading the wallpaper when I use the Litestep > Recycle function. So I must have done something right. However, it still isn't loading on startup. Is this a Vista related issue.

(Sorry about the long post, but it seems I need to explain the entire problem for people to understand what I'm saying...)

Vista is not a supported OS of LiteStep at this point. Read the State of the Step news story for more information.

"but it seems I need to explain the entire problem for people to understand what I'm saying"

That would generally be the case; given that without a full explanation, how could anyone know what you are saying without making assumptions?

whatever you say jugg -

Devilboi sorry for sounding harsh, its just I spent the best part of an evening trawling forum posts of ppl saying

"right click> set as background. Duh!"

I just think tht if you've gone as far as dwnloading an app to improve your desktop - you probably know how to change the wallpaper.

Perhaps not.

Thanks for the link Devilboi, it would seem that the devs know about the incompatibility issue, so I'm just gonna have to sit on my hands and wait..

Can't wait to find some time to actually build my own.

All the best,
{PHIL

Maybe you should go over to the Themes category where people are asking how to install fonts. And while I agree that people that download LS should know how to do this crap...many don't.

Guess you just stepped on my noobish pride is all.
