Autoplay installation problems Thread last updated on 2007-12-10 16:06:24

Hi folks,

I'm trying to install a game which has two disks (Galactic Civilizations2 in case you're interested) but for some reason, it wont recognise the second disk.

I have to start the installation manually by clicking on the D:/ icon. The process runs fine until it reaches the time to insert the second disk which says something like "Please insert disk 2 and click ok - with a box to specify the location D:/"

When I stick the disk in, it obviously checks the disk, but doesn't autorun the .exe file. I've tried manually specifying the full path to the file but it just wont complete the install. I have to reboot to regain control.

All this means I have a half installed program with no way of uninstalling it (there's no install.log file to reference) and I cant play a great game.

Any thoughts?

Do you think it's related to LiteStep?
Have you tested the disks on someone else's computer, to be sure they aren't the problem?
Are you certain it's not your CD drive that's causing this?
Do you have any CD emulation software installed (I.E. DaemonTools, Alcohol)?

switch to explorer and try to install, then switch back?

Crane, you have a point. I'm not entirely sure whether it is a litestep issue, but since I've been able to install and play the game on my Windows desktop I'd put money on it.

I tried switching to Explorer but by then the damage was done, ie a half installed version existed and made it impossible to perform a clean install from disk.

Luckily for me, Stardock keep a record of what products you purchase via your registration. I was able to download a copy of the game as a single file, thus eliminating the problem.

But still I'm a little worried about future installs where I wont have such an easy fix.

Sounds like whether or not LS did it...they have one shitty installer. And since you got the install to finish in a single file I would suspect that your disc is bad...because if the disc was good it would have finished fine in explorer.
