I am a do-it-yourselfer and would very much like to get LiteStep working by installing the manual route. In reading the readme.txt file at http://www.litestep.net/upload/lsdev/LiteStep0.24.7_31-114_readme.txt I am to the section where I need to edit the step.rc file, but I'm not getting a clear picture of what exactly needs to be put into this file. It also seems that I need to download a theme and install it before litestep will even work? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I used this years ago and it was pretty cool. ( Seems rather odd to me that the whole step.rc file creation and editing process is left _entirely_ up to the end user. But I'd like to get it working with the most recent build so I'm trying to avoid the automated process, even though it's the "recommended" installation method, if possible.

The step.rc file is used for configuration. If you check out the docs at http://lsdocs.shellfront.org you will find some examples of what belongs in the step.rc and why. You can use the most recent build with the "automated process" by upgrading after the installer finishes. If you wish to download a theme you will need to have a configuration that supports the theme standard that the theme was released under, most likely OTS2 at this point. You really are making things harder on yourself by going the route you are, but best of luck!

read the release_notes.txt in zip file. It explains the step.rc.
