Maybe it's time to update Omar's distro to make it international?
I can translate it into russian...
i can translate it into spanish
I create this thread in "General" section ...
Dunno why it in LsBuilds ...
I send a mail to Omar few weeks ago ... but no response yet ... =(
Maybe someone know how to find him?
because I moved it because it applies more here than there.
but it isn't a build, it's the default theme of lsinstaller, i think it should be in themes.
i can translate into estonian :)
but i think that there's not many litesteppers from here :-/
odd, i thought simplicity was a theme, not a build ;)
odd...I don't remember Chuvi saying anything about Simplicity.
how can you update a distro to make it international, theme makers would have to include many languages on their themes, that's why i thought he ment the theme included in the distro, that would make much more sense.
there is no text in the installer itself? find that hard to believe.
I can translate it into Dutch
the installer? i think there is some text, a Yes and a No, and, oh yes, a Cancel.
Useful (but limited) translation resource, specifically for UI:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dnwue/html/Wordlists.asp
It's not a substitute for someone who actually knows the language, but it's a start.
I mean - translate all text in installer, default theme "Simplicity", and popup.rc file ... that’s all ...
BTW : I already have translated LSDocs ... =)
if you really want to learn Litestep, you'll have to read english eventually, no matter what, so you might as well start with the installer ;)
I know Litestep fine, and I can read in English ... even write sometimes ... but a lot of peoples in russia don't ... =(
I'm trying to help russian litestep newbs ... I translate about a half desriptions to modules, now I'm busy with other part ... just wanna community grow ...
Just imagine : Someday I create "BestModuleAllOverTheWorld.dll" for Litestep, that will do everything U want - skin windows, make coffee, even brush your teeths ... And I'll write all documentation in russian ... And after that I'll tell U - to use my module you'll have to read russian ... huh?
Or take a look on Inform-Seg@ (he from russia too) ... he code a module and translate docs for it into english ... to allow you to use it ...
More comfortable to use some program on your native language ...
Hope U understood my bad english ...
No, I didn't understand your English!
j/k. I know that it'd be helpful to have the installer and a starting theme in a language one is familiar with, it's just that as most things concerning LS is in English, so for those who wants to learn every bit of .rc-tweaking that would be difficult without knowing English. Just think of the settings... CommandBorderColor, for instance, that's English, and you can't translate that (unless you wanna make like a million e-vars ;p).
but, by all means, kudos to your for spending all this time helping your fellow Russians out of the explorer-experience!
- Themes have to be released in english (I'm french)
- Modules docs have to be released in english.
- People who play (making themes) with litestep HAVE TO understand english.
- I guess people who don't understand english will never heard about litestep. Except if some friends says: "He! look at my new shiny desktop!" Then, it's up to him to translate the theme if he want to give it to "non-english" people...
- Imagine if everything under linux had to be translate, from the begining of its developpement, in french, russian, chinese, spanish... I guess there's no linux at all
- Here in russia - we have Linux distro called ALTLinux ... it's totally in russian ... everything is translated ...
- Themes have to be released in english ... but I'd like to release them in russian too ...
- I know a lot of guys who use Litestep but only heard about English language ... I know about Litestep BEFORE I know english
- Modules docs have to be released in english, but some peoples (like me) can translate them ...
So why now to make something called "Litestep Translation Project"?
No one is stopping you ;)
I know ... ;) As I said I already have translated LSDocs, modules description, some FAQs, simplicity theme ...
But to translate installer I need it's source (text file) from Omar ... But he don't answer on my e-mail's ... first of them was sent about a month ago ...
Humm, what I wanted to say is that: if coders have to release docs in every langages, things wouldn't progress anymore because lack of time.
If you want to translate all the litestep docs in russian; it's up to you... but I guess it's an endless job.
All the best!
2 Smurth : I don't ask coders release docs on every language ... I can translate them into russian ... maybe someone can translate them in other languages ... that’s all ...
